e350 Cam Plug Replacement
Noticed a bit of weeping/seepage from my 06 e350 4m at 75k mi. Did a www search, as well as searched on this forum. Is Cam Plug replacement really that easy? Pop out, clean surface, press in new plug? Purchased the 3 plug set from the local dealer who quoted approx $300.00 for this job .... seriously? What am I missing? I expect this to take me about 6 minutes. Am I clueless ... or what?

Can't speak to the installation process or cost. But make sure you replace them with the updated versions. They redesigned these plugs some time after 2007. I would imagine you can only buy the new one by now. GL

W211 E350 M272 engine cam plug
Just trying to contribute. This is for the M272 V6 engine w/ weeping plugs
1. Buy the parts from your local MB dealer. It will be a pack of 3 cam plugs - 1 large and 2 small ... for around $20.00 total
2. Remove the plastic engine covers (front panel cover and airbox) The cam plugs are easily visible and accessible, no need for a mirror, no need to crawl underneath. They are located on the top rear of the engine, facing the firewall... seriously, you can't miss 'em.
3. Driver's side has 2 plugs - 1 large and 1 small. Passenger side has 1 small plug.
4. Pry them out with a flat head screw-driver, wipe off/clean the engine surface, and pop in the new cam plugs. I did use my fingertip to lube the new cam plugs with just a little fresh oil before installing. No sealant. I tapped them in snug with the handle of the same screwdriver I used to pry them out after seating them by hand.
5. Total time - 12 minutes. Not sure why the local MB dealer quoted $326.00 for this job.
6. Easy stuff. Good luck.

I know this was some time ago, but would you happen to remember the part number for the cam plugs? Or are the cam plugs for an 06 e350 a fairly common part? Based on the boards seems like a common problem. I recently replaced the rear cetrifuge and housing cap, but still get the "check oil level" after a month or so of replenishing the oil, and can visibly see oil seepage at the caps so I know its time to replace them. Hopefully that fully resolves the problem.

Just go to your local MB dealer's parts dept and ask for the cam plug set. I don't know the part number but the dealer ONLY sells the updated 'kit' now. I think I paid 18 bucks.
