w211 shifter knob - 07 fits an 06 ?

Current car is 2006 E350 4matic. No Distronic or Airmatic options, so just the base shifter knob and base with c/s button. Question is, will the much nicer, facelift years gear knob (07 thru 09) fit on my car? Looks like my 2006 shift knob is one piece (boot and knob connected). So I'd probably have to swap for an 07 boot cover AND knob? Anyone done this? Any info would be appreciated. thanks.
