Fuel Pump or What???
I'm new to the site... I really need help with my 03 e320. I drove it to work one morning, everything was fine, when time to go home, car would crank but not start. I had the car towed to a shop, where the guy told me he could not get my fuel pump to reset, therefore he thinks its the fuel pump and suggested that I have it towed to local MBZ. I had the car towed home and had someone look at it. The guy knocked underneath my car with a hammer and it started up. I drove the car that evening as he told me to ride all the gas out and refill with Chevron gas. I filled the car up the next day, drove it home and 5 mins later it wouldn't start. Later that night and the next morning it started up. But later that evening it stopped in the middle of the road. Where exactly is the fuel pump and can you access it from the backseat on the passenger side?

Yep, the fuel pump can be accessed from under the rear seat. The only special tool required is a large ring nut remover. Other than that make sure the tanks is low on fuel.
However I would make sure it is the fuel pump. That is a pricey item !! Additionally what did your gent friend hit with a hammer, because as you know it sure as hell wasn't the fuel pump???

Not sure what he was hitting, but the car started up. I drove it the next day and the day after I filled it up. I'm getting the fuel pump changed right now and hoping that's the only problem.

Am I the only one who has a bad feeling about this and is "awaiting" the next post stating that the car is doing the same thing as it was before the "fixed" fuel pump?
I smell a bad crankshaft position sensor.......
And the wait game starts NOW!!!!!!!!

I would agree with a bad CPS (crankshaft position sensor) , as your car cools down it will then start again, once its hot and switched off it wont start.
get it on STAR to be 100%

I changed my alternator , my battery and the Crank Position Sensor. Car still won't start. After my alternator drained out my battery the car won't start anymore....any suggestions?
I already checked the fuel pumps under the rear seats and both sides seem to be functioning. While I'm trynna start the car all you smell is gas

MBWorld Fanatic!
Get it checked by a shop that can tell you exactly what is wrong. An indie shop with proper diagnostic code reader for MB. Otherwise you are just throwing money at it by guessing.

Some of the stuff needed to be replaced anyways...but I don't understand why I won't start as soon as the battery died and got replaced wouldn't fire up...

We hear about this type of whining all the time when the OP spends money needlessly on parts that arn't required before spending the minuscule amount of money on a proper test to really learn what is wrong with the car--------Now the OP has to do that any way----wada shame

My 2003 e320 starts but engine stalls after 3 seconds.
Hi friends, good day!
I'm Jas from Toronto Canada. I have been driving this 2003 E320 which I bought from a MB certified dealer in 2006 with 27500 KM on it. I don't know if I am posting on the right Forum for help.
Last summer my hot engine would not start and once I leave it for 30 minutes I stared and drive well. I read some posts on this forum and members suggested bad cam Shaft position sensor, thus I replace it and problem resolved.
Last month on January 15 we had Ice storm and weather became very cold and temperature dropped to -35 degree C. Next morning my car would not start. Engine was cranking, car started but was missing and rpm was not going over 600 and after 4 seconds engine shuts off. I added gas line Anti -freeze and left it alone while waiting for temperature to go in plus. because of excessive cranking my battery drained and I recharged it. After three days car started when day time temp. was +6 C and ran well until yesterday. It would not start in the morning. Like engine started but stalls after 3 seconds as engine rpm were very low at 500 to 400. Later it did not start at all, even with the booster.
It had original battery thus decided to replace it. Installed a new battery but no results. Then I decide to replace spark plus. When started the engine same old story - car started at 800 rpms but quickly dropped to 400 to 300 and within 3 seconds engine stalled. later it did not start.
Can it be fuel pump rely or fuel pump itself? Is there something wrong with EPS? I have no warning lights on display.
Your help will be greatly appreciated. It has 71,600 Km on odometer. Car was in very good running condition but cold weather has killed her.

Tx my friend. since it did not display any warnings/codes I waited for good weather. Today it was -1 degree C outside and I put 2 heaters in my garage and room temp. increased to 7 degrees, car started without any warning in display. Now I think my fuel filter is clogged. I will replace it in next few days. It seems like I had bad fuel in my tank from gas station. Thank god car got fixed but it has cost me $280 already, lol.

Ugh! For a few months now, my car jerks at low speed so I suspected a gummed up throttle body. But I've been too lazy to check it. Last night on the way home, it ran extra rough and I thought to myself "I really need to check that throttle body"... 10 seconds later, the car stalled. I cranked it over and it idled very poorly for 5 seconds then died. Then it took longer to turn the engine over each time I cranked the ignition after that, but never ran for more than 2 seconds at a time.
I had the car towed to my mechanic this morning. It wouldn't even turn over this morning. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that it's a fuel filter or really gummed up throttle body. Unfortunately, the logical side of me says that the fuel pump has died. The car was parked on a busy street so I couldn't tell if the fuel pump was running or not when I turned the key into the battery power mode.... but I don't think it was. Bah!!!!
Anybody want to send me a get well card? Send strippers? I really could do with some cheering up right now. ;-)

So how did you get the car fixed? What was the problem?

Since you have already towed it to mechanic there is least you can do. I wish you good luck and hope that your repair bill doesn't exceed $300
As your car stalled while running, it cant be cam position sensor. May be you have bad plugs.
When you put ignition key in, you can hear the fuel pump running sound. If you press the valve pin on fuel line in the engine compartment there should be enough pressure and fuel should come out as a fine jet. I think you need 40 psi pressure. Those pressure fuel gauges a expensive to buy. Throttle body gums don't make much difference and engine should not stall like that. I don't know if your car is equipped with map sensor and Idle air control valve.
What about your battery and alternator? They have to be in good shape too.
Good luck my friend.
