New to MB-navigation question

Hi I'm new to MB, just purchased a 2004 E500 RWD and I have a question on how can you tell whether navigation/phone is installed or prewired. When you press navigation button it say navigation device is unavailable and when you press phone it says phone not installed. Haven't taken any pictures yet. I will be pretty disappointed if navigation not installed.

Check your trunk, DVD reading unit if you have it should be on the left hand side under the rear fender lining.

According to the message he gets, he does not have phone installed, but for Navi there is something wrong w/the drive or is missing.

Well according to the data card for your car you do not have Navi installed.

Navigation

If I purchase a navigation DVD drive, can I have it installed and how much would the price be. Also did you noticed when you viewed my data card on the phone installation?

It says that you have Command DVD Plus (w/o Navigation) - SA Code 528. You probably will be able to install DVD reader in the trunk and connect it to the head unit (usually those cars are prewired and you just plug the addition) but you probably will need to change Command settings through SDS to activate it.
Phone code is 384 - Telephone Preinstallation CP High for USA. I am not sure, but most likely it is same situation - prewired but not installed if you do not have it in the center console under the arm rest, or the unit is missing.

With the VIN you supplied , the vehicle is prewired for i pod and navigation system----the retrofit will not be cheap and the only place I would suggest doing the work is a place authorized by the dealer to do the work-----the non dealer butchers will have a field day with your car. Therefore be careful and choose wisely!!

I will check EPC on Monday 1000 and advise, however after reviewing the EXTREMELY lengthly install process, I believe that once you first connect with DAS Xentry, that initial process tells you what software and hardware has to be added, changed and updated, excluding the the very extensive retrofit kit list of materials. Be patient

After I went through the EPC/WIS exercise, I forgot this was a retrofit and the two part numbers did not associate with your car---that's correct because your car dosent currently have the feature.

However when you purchase the kit all the sofware questions should be answered when you connect to DAS Xentry---just don't buy any software untill you know what hardware is included in the kit!!!

Which DVD-navigation Drive

Plutoe,

This is not software that I'm trying to purchase. According to previous post, my vehicle is pre-wired for Navigation, just doesn't have the DVD drive or reader installed in the trunk. These number what I gave you were for the naviagation drives or readers to install in the trunk to connect to the head unit of the command console. So which one of these would be compatible?

it would be most likely cheaper for you to just ditch the factory setup and go aftermarket. the oem nav is dated. there is a pnp adaptor called opti1 making aftermarket, installations simple.

The nav isn't overly good. Pretty cumbersome compared to what you can buy for $150 and stick on the glass when needed.
