Are you located in Iowa...or at Andrews AFB in MD? That pic looks JUST like the car wash on base - background and all.

There are plenty of upgrades available - but most are very expensive. Are you going for looks...power...speed...?

Someone here did a muffler delete. You might want to look into that.

Just sound. There isn't much back pressure to relieve in the current setup.

You could also look into buying and installing a supercharger. That is more $$$$

It's not DIY. Take it to a muffler shop and have the chop the muffler off and re-weld pipe in to exit the car chassis. Make sure to have them install J pipes though.

But before taking my advice...do a search for the other threads discussing this topic.

I imagine, around $100-200 for a good shop and using the correct materials.

Boardboy was referring to the Muffler Delete I recently did and GregD did one a while back. Excellent mod, I imagine I derive some benefit from the fact I don't have two heavy mufflers back there anymore, but for the most part it's for aesthetic appeal. Cost me about $70 per muffler to do a delete (straight pipe) then weld in a j-pipe which is a 29-inch piece of pipe blocked off at one end to help cancel out droning. Here is my thread on it with video and everything:

https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...althrough.html

Modifying is an awesome road to go down, you don't have to look like every W211 out there. I recommend starting with new wheels, lowering, changing out those ugly orange side-marker lights, some tint (go with a nice Huper Optik film) then go into the exhaust, possibly a HID light conversion if you don't already have it, etc. These aren't really full on "mods" but those tend to be very expensive on these engines, I have done mostly aesthetic tweeks. As far as performance is concerned, consider an ECU-tune. Everything I just referenced is well documented on

Yeah I've been incredibly happy with it. Most muffler shops though have no idea how to do the J-Pipe or aren't willing, so you have to just get a good grasp of what it's supposed to be and tell them how to do it on the spot even if they are skeptical. It is an impressive sound at full throttle but sedate when you want it to be. As GregD put it however, more European V8 than muscle car sounding - even has a nice pop on shift sometimes.

Looking good though, as far as the LED parking lights search the forums real quick I think there's a tutorial. I'll link it if I find the one I'm thinking of.

Also, if you're serious about performance mods, then consider a Stage I/II/III Kleeman tune. Expensive but at a K3 tune can screw about 460 horsepower out of the M273.
