W211 Top Speed
I've searched the forums quite a bit on this question for the W211, but haven't been able to find a lot. The E-Class is limited to 155mph electronically I understand but I am sure it is capable of quite a bit more when the electronic limiter is taken off (assuming the proper rated tires etc). Anyone know what the actual top speed is? Perhaps for the E550? I have a feeling it could be a 170-175 mph car but it's hard to say with gearing.

I have the E500 and I think it's top speed whithout limiter is about 267 km/h, that's at least what I've heard. Sorry by the way, I don't know how much it is in mph...![Wink](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)

No worries man! That is 166 mph about, I assume the E550 would be a little higher but I think it depends on the gearing difference too.

Yes 130 sorry I should have edited that. My question is, though, what is the *non-electronically limited* top speed?

I would think it's higher than that, because I know almost all E-Classes can at least get to 155 with the lower limiter removed (US Market).
As for Fila, yo I just checked your YouTube channel I found out how you know ahahaha

Here in Europe all car manufacturers have an agreement that the limit is 250 km/h and I believe that is 155 mph so if You have an 500/550 it'll propably go a bit faster whith the limiter off.
Are Your cars limited to 130 mph..? If they are they'll propably go to their maximum top speed whith that removed cause I don't think they have fitted 2 limiters to Your cars..![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

but in all reality both benzes that i had, 03 e500 and 08 e550 they went about 135ish. I used to want to delimit them, but decided against it. when am i gonna go 160 in nyc. Only if i travel out the city, and even then anything above 100 is reckless driving if u get caught. Man i need to find some closed circuit tracks

So do I there are so few here in Colorado other than High Plains Raceway, even then how often can I get up there. That makes sense both the E500/E550 are limited to around 135 as OEM tires are only rated for about that much.
But I am asking this in a purely theoretical way as I am curious to the capability of this car de-limited. I've heard figures from 155 to 170 so I want to get to the truth! Haha

Yeah for sure I think 170 is an intelligent estimate. I would also venture to say that RWD would be a little higher with the 7-speed gearing ratios versus the 5 but in all probably a 5mph difference.
All tires and aerodynamics man. Hence why it's probably limited in the first place even though most of the car can easily exceed that. Had mine only up to 110mph sadly

Took you long time.
I find out the limiter on our E320 about 3 days after purchase.
I think it is rated at 130, but was actually going 132 mph. GPS confirmed it pretty close.
My ScanGauge was showing 5 mpg.

Lmao yes it did, but yeah I've maxed out my car numerous times (in Mexico of course) and it's the same for me, 130 is the limiter I believe but I hit 136 on a downhill section of road. It's amazing how it kept pulling that high up, sort of anticlimactic when you hit that limiter and the car has so much more to give. (Pay attention to tire speed ratings though, everybody - even in Mexico they apply).
5mpg though, economical!

My E220 doesn't have that limiter, so I can go until the limit of the car itself. It accelerates very very slowly but it reaches a surprisingly high top speed for a 4 cylinder diesel ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Pretty impressive diesel torque from 4-banger MBPT.
I had less than 10 miles along Salt Lake in UT to do my test, but my wagon 4M with 320 gasser would slowly reach 130 mph = 200 kph on 4th gear and did not want upshift.
The torque just was not there.
I forced it to upshift but then had a feeling that on 5th gear the thing is slowing down due to lack of torque, but I run out of distance.

Your 320 can reach a much higher top speed

Yeah that's about 150mph, I think yours still has the limiter but it is higher in european spec cars than it is in US spec cars, most tunes will probably eliminate the limiter, and it can be done easily in STAR as MBPT said.

For my wagon?
Downhill and with strong rear wind![rolf](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)
I missed diesels. Even the 174 HP E300DT was reaching 130 mph on 5th gear although slowly. Bare in mind US models are heavier than European siblings.
320cdi was making 130 uphill
Not much purpose to take the governor off in USA.
Ask how many forum members in US have seen 100+ mph in their lives?

In my country, we can ride at almost 100mph without problems... And there are some roads where the police doesn't appear very often, so, there we can ride as fast as we want. Anyway, in Europe our cars are limited to 250km/h but the cars with lower top speeds doesn't come with the limiter, as far as I know.
Here you can see a E320 going faster than mine (obviously the V6 otto engine is much better, as you know)![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
