04 E500 - 7G Transmission

Does anyone know if the new 7-G seven speed transmission will be included on the first 04' E500 builds?

It's my understanding that all MY04 E500s will have the 7G tranny.

i think that the 04 E500 will only get the 7 spd auto, i guess to get rid of the gas guzzler, and improve times

From what I've read fuel economy was the #1 reason for the 7 G
#2 was having a 7 speed before BMW and Lexus etc and #3 was performance, there is up to a 0.3 performance gain in 0-60 times depending upon the specific vehicle application slatted for MY 04.

We just ordered an 04 E500, and they still charged us for the gas guzzler tax. I guess we'll see. I, for one, wouldn't mind taking another thousand off of the car.

How did they price your car? Pricing has not been released yet?

They didn't price it, but it was still on the order sheet. If when we go to pay for it, it's not there, then three cheers to Mercedes!

I feel confident that the 2004 E500 will miss the gas guzzler tax since the '03 model missed the mark by only 1 MPG. However, I am worried about the extra weight of the 4-MATIC... I wonder if this model will miss the gas guzzler mark.

I guess we'll really see how efficient this new 7G tranny is...

And don't forget about the better acceleration that should come from the 7G. That's also got me waiting...

4MATIC models will most likely still have the gas guzzler. It is pretty heavy.

I just read on another thread that the 7G tranny will not be on the '04 E500 4MATIC or the AMG cars for 2004.

Anyone confirm this info?

4Matic & 7G

This press release says 5 speed in 4Matic and I read elsewhere that 7G will not be on E55 in '04

Check this out for the performance and economy details on the 7G. They claim Sept. 03 availability. My guess is that anything built now will have it. All of the tranny mechanincs at my dealership have already been trained on it. Salesman says he doesn't know but sales manager is confident all big cars (E, SL, S, CL) but AMG and 4Matics will have it starting with cars delivered in late Oct. or early Nov.
