Head unit software update screen freeze
The car: 2005 E280 CDI
The problem: The head unit displays the following message, "software update" with underneath two empty loading bars. It always and only shows this message, there is no response to any input. I have the original dvd. When i put it in, it spins it for a second and spits it out.
Solutions according to google:
1. put in the disc (which it spits out) and press 3 5 7
2. put in the disc (which it spits out) and press 1 3 8
3. take out fuse 6 in the rear fuse box, this should turn of the system. (i took it out but the system stays on. Discovered that fuse 5 in the front box does turn off the system, but it comes back to the original message.)
4. I also tried putting the disc in the rear dvdplayer... out of desperation. This one works fine, but apparently is only for map discs.
Context:
I recently changed the settings so it plays dvd's on the go, no problems for 2 days. Then after starting the car, the mentioned message appeared.
Is there a way to give it a hard reset, or any other things I could try?
I really appreciate all suggestions, thx in advance for the help
The car isn't my car, its my cousins car and he just started a business importing cars.
He doesn't speak English or German, so he asked me to use the power of the internets to find a solution.
Now i just found this thread in the forum, which tells me he probably bricked it.. But since it would be incredibly sad if he would go bankrupt after making this mistake on the third car he bought/sold, I want to try everything i can think of.
I'm not sure if i'm pulling the right fuse to restart the command, since pulling fuse 6 in the boot seems to leave the system on. How do i make sure its the correct fuse?

I think your best bet is to visit an indie with Star DAS and see what they can do.
We have two disks: a navigation disc and an update disc... they get ejected.
We took your advice and disconnected the battery, problem persists.
We'll visit someone with star DAS next!
