Rough shifting after rear main seal fix

Brand new member here -- hoping to learn from the collective wisdom of the forum. By way of background, I am of a unique breed in that I am certifiably a "car guy", but know virtually nothing about fixing any aspect of them. Even the simplest of DIY options don't apply to me -- ever. I wish this wasn't the case, but it is what it is. So, having established that...I recently bought an 06 E350 -- one of the biggest appeals of this vehicle for me is the ultra-smooth transmission. Last week I had the beginnings of a "rear main seal leak" fixed, and now the car seems to shift MUCH more abruptly, especially at slower speeds. Pretty bummed about this. I am, however, extremely **** when it comes to cars, and notice every single little nuance, both cosmetically and mechanically. Is it possible that the tranny is simply "re-learning" my driving habits/style? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, in advance.

Yes. Same thing happened to me, and everything but the 1-2 shift is smooth now. I am curious to know how yours ends up after a couple weeks.

Thanks, Theo3000. How long before the gears smoothed out? Interesting that you still have the problem with 1-2, as that is definitely the most noticeable transition for me right now (i.e. neighborhood driving).

Think I just found the instructions for the tranny reset from "oh lord" in another thread. Going to give it a try...

Tranny reset = magic

Problem solved.

Now, if I could just figure out why my fuel gauge stays stuck on full, I'd be good to go!
