Head Unit W211 Upgrade

Hello everybody!
I'm new to this forum so i would like to greet everyone...

I'm from Portugal and i have a E220 CDI with 180000km.
I have it since it came out, in 2003.

I made a few upgrades since i bought it. Added CLS 18" wheels and low suspension.
Now i will upgrade brakes. Is EBC Ultimax and EBC GreenStuff a good kit?
And i'm going to upgrade the Head Unit. Command NTG2,5 is so expensive. I can't afford it. Command NTG1 has a big lack of funcionalities...
This is the unit that i have: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...agen002du.jpg/
I would like you to give me your feedback about this (http://www.dvdgpsnav.com/2-din-merce...gps-radio.html) and about your opinion.

Cheers from Portugal.

I'd like to hear about this head unit as well. I've been trying to find a nice replacement for mine and I really like that this has a stock look.

Hello my friend,
Yes, i think this is a nice unit, although is made in China. That might be a problem.
I really hope that somebody bought this head unit and come to this thread and talk about it for us to understand if it really worth it.

Keep us posted - it looks like a nice unit with good functionality and a nice OEM look.

I think it does support fiber optics... It is seems simple to install. The only problem here is the quality of the head unit. We can't see it in the video. It's made by them and not by a user. We need a proper review about it.

I just purchased this unit today. Waiting for it to come in to check it out. I contacted the customer service and they said it should work with the fiber optics in the car.

Love the stock hardware look and touch screen... the UX looks a little iffy though especially with the GPS, as does the made-in-China feel.

"The mercedes w211 navigation head unit is with powerful configuration which runs much faster than before"

Hahahaha if you look at the lettering under the number 1 "seven" is spelled "sevent" - definitely on-par with Chinese quality.

Mine finally came in a few days ago. Just got it installed in my 2003 E320. Let me know if you're still looking for more information on this.

This is great to hear, I have the same car. My has the "E2" Premium Sound System package, I'm hoping yours does to so I know it'll be a direct fit.

Can you provide your opinion on how well it installed and the quality of the unit and I'd love to see some pictures/videos of it so we can see it in action outside of the company selling it.

I think we all are. I'm a little sad it doesn't have Sirius/XM. but to have a touch screen DVD player, I may just sau screw it and get one. Can you tell us how well it does video playback? Is it fairly quick between menus? Can we see a shot of the maps? I've always used Navteq/Garmin maps and don't even bother witht he stocjk Nav because it sucks so hard.

Lastly, you have the fiber optic/MOST stereo in your car?

Thanks!

I didn't forget about you guys! I know there is hardly any real information on the internet talking about this product. I was pretty skeptical myself before making the purchase, so here are my thoughts on it.

Several electronic websites from China and Japan sell it but I purchased mine from seicane.com. They offered the lowest price ($578 which includes shipping and SD card for GPS) I seen it there backed with the assurance of using Paypal and it only took about a week to arrive in the mail.

Installation:

The package came with several adapters and RCA connects with zero instructions. Most of them you will never use depending an the type of audio connections you have in your vehicle. My E320 uses the MOST fiber optic system which obviously is not compatible with the new head unit. There is a harness, however, that can be used to bypass the fiber optics and into the AGW.

The AGW can be accessed in the trunks driver side behind the N1O/2 (SAM-R module). You will need to remove four connectors which are the speaker wires (14-pin), fiber optic cable, and power connector (4pin), and antenna. These will all connect to your new harness.

To add to my harness, I purchased two 25' long RCA cables, one for my aftermarket subwoofer and the other as rear view camera video pre-wire. I also added 25' of copper wire to splice with my reverse lights. This should tell the HU to switch to camera view when in reverse.

The provided harness is not well labeled and their labels can get lost in translations. There are three wires labeled BACK, BRAKE, and AMP. I deduced that BACK is for the reverse lights, BRAKE is for the hand brake when watching DVDs, and AMP is the remote for an external amplifier. There is no need to connect the BRAKE wire because the HU gives an Option to disable it in the settings.

I would strongly recommend plugging the unit in at the trunk before running the wires. This will let you know which cables you need and don't need. I only connected the 6m harness, radio and GPS antennas to mine. The CANBUS connects to the harness and works surprisingly! The iPod connector didn't work very weil, but I figured those are slowly being phased out by Apple anyway. Once you know what you will need, you can start the long tedious process of gutting out your interior to run the cables from trunk to dash.

The included attachment may also help out with the process.

WARNING: Unplugging any yellow connectors will cause a permanent malfunction which will need to be reset by the dealer.

Likes:
  • The included CAN BUS retains steering wheel controls
  • Bluetooth connection allows for audio and phone connections (phone feature works an steering wheel)
  • Several options for media playback (CD/DVD, SD Card, Bluetooth, camera, etc.)
  • Subwoofers sound better than ever
  • A lot cooler than the Audio 50 Cassette OEM HU I previously had
Dislikes:

  • Takes a while to startup when car turns on
  • Radio reception not as good as stock
  • There is a couple secs delay when toggling between menus
  • Included maps is slightly out of date (did not recognize recent road construction)
  • Found a glitch in the audio programming (front speakers are turned off until navigation makes a sound first)
Overall, l'm pretty happy with the new unit minus my dislikes. I really like the fact that it looks stock so it keeps thieves at bay. lt was just installed last weekend so l'm still playing around with it. l'll also be throwing in a rear view camera pretty soon also since it's already been pre-wired for that. I can provide updates to let you guys know how that works out if you would like.

Here's a short video demo of it in action. Hope this has been helpful!

Feel free to hit me up with any questions.

Hi I will purchase this one :
http://www.seicane.com/android-7-inc...3#.UfQF_Y0wfX4
which is more or less the same but with Android system I will also get hte DVB-T tuner and the rear view camera.
How difficult is it to connect the sytem, do I need to go to a car audio specialist or I can do it myself (I'm a mechanical engineer, so I'm not to bad with tools.

The android may actually be a more stable OS than the one I have. Mine has its little glitches but its still better than OEM. I didnt think it was very difficult to install but then again Im an engineer also. I think u'll be fine. Just let me know if you run into any trouble along the way.

All I want is a high end large touch screen running a fairly modern version of Android and using google maps for my navigation...

Android sounds interesting, never really considered spending on a new head unit but this might change that please let us know how it goes!

Btw do this things work with the HK amplifier?

Not that I would necessarily use it. But can you use your stock CD changer with this headunit?

Different countries transmit television signals based on your region. You need to purchase the digital TV unit based on the region that applies to you.

You will have to bypass the HK amplifier. There is already an amplifier built into the aftermarket HU that will power your speakers.
