2009 E550 - Trunk Problem

This weekend the trunk started acting up. As I opened the trunk (either via the key or the door switch) it would not open all the way. It would pop open but stop a few inches from closed. I then noticed that the trunk lights were not on. Pressing the button to close the trunk did nothing and the light for that button was off. One time in closing the trunk I noticed that the trunk light turned on as did the light on the button to close the trunk. I pressed it and it worked. Good news is that apparently the trunk motor works just fine, bad news is something wrong with the wiring. Does anybody have some diagrams on the wiring, how it runs, how it is wired?

Oh, I don't know if there is any relation or not but this morning I got a message stating that one of the license plate lights is out, for got which one. This is probably not related to my problem but I thought I would throw it out there.

Thanks ahead of time.

Read through the thread, sounds like the symptoms I'm having. Really appreciate the information, I'll get the car fixed this evening and back on the road.

Again, thank you very much. I followed the instructions, found the broken brown wire and patched it up. Trunk working again.

Good job. I think it is very satisfying to dig into the problem and solve it like that. Plus, it saves a good bit of money.
