New E - English Version on MB site

Found an English-version link on the MB site describing the new E - you will see a thumbnail on the right half-way down the page. Also, I called my local dealer and he said that in the US, we get the "Classic" versus the "Avantgarde". Earlier, I read on this board that we get the Avantgarde. Could someone clarify?

Hi vectra,

Actually in the US we get the Elegance version, albeit with more standard than a normal European Elegance.

Our Avantgarde is the Sport Package, albeit with more stuff (I think) than the European Avantgarde.

Hope this helps!

PS: The European Classic is a REALLY base model.

Thanks cjileong! That's a BIG help! I was a little down on the fact that we may be getting the classic - when I looked at the three models online, as you stated, the classic appeared VERY base.

vectra,

No problem at all. In fact, another way I've seen it described is something like this.

Avantgarde = Sport Package
Elegance = our base model
Classic = what Europeans use for taxicabs and police cars and stuff...

An easy way to tell the versions [in Europe] is
Elegance has dark brown wood
Avantgarde has black wood
Classic tends to have fake carbon fibre, or something else

We used to have a "sport" version which was a bit like classic with the sports supension - that seemed to be on the "lower" models (original C etc, I dunno if that exists)

Avantgarde tends to come with sport suspension as standard, Elegance with electric-memory-everything.
Although in Europe we tend to be able to order what we like (so you can order sport suspension on an elegance etc etc)

Im not sure that it is that analogous to the US models. I think you get different packaging - you certianly dont seem to have the elegance/avantgarde etc badges on the sides or on the gearshift knob

Talking this is how it works

In the US:

Classic = we dont get
Elegance = how the 320's will be packaged standard
Avantgarde = how the 500/55 will be packaged standard

Sport package is the optional AMG package one can choose as an option on the 320 or 500 that consists of AMG front and rear aprons and AMG side skirts.....plus it seems with the new E model twin chrome exhaust pipes.
