Avaliability of the e-500

I went to my dealer to inquire about the e500 and I was told it will not be out until October or November. Does that sound about right. Are these cars going ot sell at sticker or somewhat close? Need some info on how I should play this out. I have alwayys bought from stock but the new w211 looks great. My delaer was of course trying to convince me to take a 430 at 3.5-4k off now. Any thought on these questions would be appreciated.

The last I heard (1 week ago) from my dealer was that it would be out around late September. Sounds like it's anybody's guess. As for a deal on the current E430, my dealer said they would knock off $1.5k - thanks. I looked up the dealer invoice on Edmunds and it looks like the difference between dealer invoice and retail is only $3,700.00 - if your dealer is offering to knock off $3.5 - $4k, they must be feeling pressure from the 2003 release or MB is starting to kick in extra dealer incentives. As for the price of the new models, I read online in an article that prices will be approximately 3-4% higher than 2002, however, I went to the MB site, downloaded pricing from the Deutsch site for the 2002 & 2003 E's, and it looks like the E320 is 7% lower while the E500 is staying the same as the current E430. However, I have no idea as to whether increases or decreases in one country carry over to another. Either way, I'm waiting for the new E500!

Originally heard a Sept delivery

But in recent weeks after having conversations with the dealer it seems that the E series may be delayed about one month. He didnt seem to know the reason or perhaps simply didnt want to share them. I am awaiting a E55/50 and it was originally due in Apr 03.. now he says he will get back to me as soon as he gets a more definative date. But Apr looks dim. Im not as pressed about it as I was awaiting this C32. As the time gets closer, I will get more anxious to pick it up. But for now... its too far out there to worry about it.

Sorry, I know this is not the CLK site, however, I could not resist asking this question after I saw the discounts. I ordered a 2002 CLK430 in December hoping to get a good discount due to the '03's late summer arrival. My dealer gave me $2200.00 off retail and scheduled delivery for this week. Well it's been sitting at the port (Germany) since Feb. 22 and definately won't make it here next week. Due you guys think I can leverage a better discount since its (1) late and (2) the 2003's have been officially debued ???? Since invoice is around 46K what do you suggest I should pay now ??!!!

Should I expect to pay sticker on a new e500 or can I negotiate a discount amount? I have always bought cars out of stock and could use some input on this. I am giving a deposit to my dealer for an e500 on Monday, so any input would be appreciated.

I called and spoke to the dealer yesterday and he offered 3200 off of the list price on a 2002 e430. This is also the same dealer that serviced my 97 e320 and my salesman I bought it from so that may make a difference, or so I would like to think.

In my book, "everything" is negotiable. However, a lot of it has to do with the popularity of the car, is the dealer receiving extra incentives from the mfg based on the volume of cars sold in a given time-frame, is it a "new-market" year, did you happen to time your visit to the dealership when your salesperson is close to winning a sales contest, etc. With the E500, my guess is that it will be a popular car and not to expect much of a deal. However, as we are seeing with the current E430, you may be able to get a bit of a "deal" due to the upcoming release of a new model (a market adjustment). A lot of it can also depend on the individual salesperson. For the most part, I generally seek out a senior salesperson. A junior salesperson will typically play it by the book when it comes to pricing whereas a senior salesperson has been around a while and knows what they can and can not do. Also, if you're looking for a deal, it doesn't hurt to have a price in mind so that when you hear the magic number, you will know it. You can use a site such as Edmunds.com and compare the dealer invoice price to sticker price - they even have an area that tells what people across the country are typically paying for the same make and model that you may be buying. In short, at the end of the day when you're talking numbers, it never hurts to ask "is that the best you can do?" My objective when buying a car is not to necessarily get the best deal, but to get a fair deal - we all have to make $.

At my dealership we were originally told to expect the new "E" in August. As of last week we are told that it will be Sept./Oct.

P.S. We are discounting E430s about $4,000. I would hold out for 3-4,000 on a 430.

CME4BENZ,

What is status on W210's inventory nationwide? Has production for U.S. models ceased? If so, has all the U.S. W210's reached theses shores or are there still some on the boats in transit to the U.S.

Same question for the E55's.

Thanks.

Hi Kevin,

How are you enjoying the E55? (It's a rhetorical question, how could you not). We did sell the 2000 you and I spoke about and just sold the 2002 we had in stock.

Yes, W210 production is over. My Vehicle report today shows a few still "on the water" and one waiting to be shipped to us. If people are looking for specific options, colors etc. their dealer can trade with other dealers but at this point what is built is it for W210s.

In this link posted by othello...

The price of an E500 after conversion from Euro to USD at today's rate is under 45,000... That is considerable cheaper then the current E430 and the same price as a 3.5(v6)RL Acura.

Sorry guys,
There is no way the E500 is going to sell for $45,000.
The current E430 is $54-55,000 before options. As usual MB will try to offer more technology, i.e. sensotronic brakes and an improved vehicle, without raising the price (much).
A $10,000 price decrease? Not.

That is the rate it is selling at, look at the link please, find the chart, type in Euro to USD conversion in google, and work it out.
Remember that each new MB that has been redesigned of late has had a price drop or the price has remained the same at intro.

By the time the import taxes are added and who knows what else....I would imagine the E500 will MSRP for at least $50k (I'm thinking $53-$54k)- basically keeping the price the same as the outgoing E430.

A 2002 BMW M3 bases at $46k and change, can't see a V8 Benz being available for less.

Petey, with your estimate the E320 would be $39k - NOT!.

In europe E-Class car are available in four trims:

Classic
Elegence
Avantgarde
AMG

That $45k seems like a Classic version with cloth seats, 16" wheels, and no moonroof. Europe W211 will also have 4 cylinder engines. The Classic version is the basic version purchased by taxi drivers.

The US gets the Avantgarde & AMG models with all the luxuries appointments added.

JamE55,

You always hang out at the "House Of Imports" Mercedes dealer during your spare time? Are they serving drinks or have models in bikinis or something? No good bars around?

Hey E55 KEV

I don't always hang out. It's actually kind of funny you asked that because during the weekeneds here in ca i visit probably 2-3 dealers on saturday or sunday and just check out their inventory and also reminds me that i already own one of their great cars. I guess you can say it's a hobby. But it's great cuz i get to get some interesting and good info from my guys. They do serve drinks when there's a special occasion but i wish they do have models in bikins and then i'll hung around more! lol! :p :p :p

Its BMW's base price....$45,900 + $645 dest.= $46,545.

This is before of course adding options (like a sunroof, xenons, 19'in wheels, navi, SMGII if desired). It can get up there real quick

Then you have dealers who are still trying to get over MSRP for the car.

On carpoint, it lists a ML500 as $44,950 with leather and nav system standard.

http://carpoint.msn.com/

I really think the E500 could list for that lower price as it goes for gold in trying to take the 5 series.

The ML500 actually lists for $45, 615 base price and its also built in the U.S., the BMW 540i (which would be E500 competition) lists for $51,845 base after destination.

The E500 is an import.....can't see the base price being any less than $50k.
