W211 ESP issues

Dear Members,
Need help badly. I have a W211 2003 E 240 Petrol. Was behaving strangely for a long time. Showed the following errors:

Battery sign in red:
ESP/ BAS/ABS Malfunction

after ignoring the error messages for a while, one fine day the gear lever seemed to get stuck in the P position. Restarting after a couple of tries, the car worked for a few minutes and then the W/S button and gear shifting would not happen( i guess it went into Limp mode).

I got the rear battery changed. The car worked for 2 days but then again the same problem. Starting on its own will and gear changes not happening.
It still showed the RED BATTERY sign. Got the Aux battery changed. the battery sign went away.

Got the codes removed. Worked for a few miles. But then same issues of starting and gear change.

Stationary car with lever in P, but showed the gear position on the cluster as R ( reverse lamp also ON). Star scanner shows some problem with the ESP ECU.

Not sure if replacing this would also solve the issue or not.

Someone please suggest how to ensure that the real problem is with the ESP ECU.

URGENT HELP NEEDED.

Welcome to the forums! It may be one of the sensors like steering sensor that's out and causing a fault, I would have an expert look at the specific codes so you don't end up replacing the entire unit without first troubleshooting the smaller things. It could be a number of issues or sensors, very difficult to diagnose without actually being there so that's my take on it... check your sensors first and have a professional look into it a little more.
