rear thunk in e500
someone posted a problem awhile ago about having a thunk sound coming from the rear when driving over some bumps in the road.
my car started this last week. in comfort mode, over some bumps, there is a thunk sound (loud, like bottoming out) coming from the right rear.
please post if you know what this problem is...i'm taking to the dealer soon but would like some way to point them.

I had this problem most of the summer in my replacement 03 E. I thought is was my junk in the trunk. When I removed the junk the sound persisted. The dealer replaced the right rear shock, saying it had a defective spot, and now there is no more noise.

Interesting. My '03 E500 replacement started making this sound about a week ago. It has about 3K miles. Sounds like someone underneath hitting the rear wheel well with a rubber mallet. Happens to be the right side too.

Tell me this...
Do you guys notice this thunking sound when cruising over bumps? Let's say you coast over some lumpy railroad tracks. My car seems to thunk in the right front every once in a while when I'm coasting over tracks or speed bumps.
It only seems to occur if the car gets a little "bounce" to it... not exactly leaving the ground (Dukes of Hazard style!!!).
