That is a myth I can't find one report or picture of melted headlight housings, because 55w HIDs run cooler than stock Halogen bulbs I'm not sure why people are still perpetuating this.

I read that the 55w get alittle to hot may melt plastic or burn transformer. The guy that sold them to me also commented that. So I didn't want to take a chance on damaging mine so I went with the 35W. From my factory yellow bulbs to 35W hid's big dif. Can't complain.
Do you have Hid's on yours?

Yeah I still think it's a bit of a myth, I haven't had any scorching or melting in mine since I've installed them a while ago, although I only had one working for a while until I installed a capacitor. By the way in your post on the previous page, the wattage (55w/35w) is determined by the ballast, whereas the color temperature (8000k) is determined by the bulb and just measures the spectrum of light that it outputs. 4500k is closest to natural sunlight.

I have DDM Tuning HIDs with 55w 6000k low beams, 35w 5000k fog lights, 5000k city light LEDs, and 5000k Phillips DiamondVision halogen high beams. Doesn't color match as closely as I would like but I figure I'll go for round 2 when I buy this E63 *fingers crossed* my original thought was that because of the color washout between 55w and 35w that 6000k low beams and 5000k HIDs would match but the fogs are a little too white, lacking that slight blue tint. Same with the LEDs but I can't find a 6000k LED that will work, however AZNOptics was an amazing supplier with awesome support.

Still interested in the LEDs though, I wish they made them in 6000k and I had some guarantee or explanation that they will work with the clip system on the W211, and more explanation on wiring/ballasts work. Also not convinced on their focal length being proper for this type of projector housing.

So if I replace my ballast I can use the same bulb and it will output 55w?
DAMB now that you say you have had 55w on yours for a while and haven't had any problems I regret not getting the 55w.

I can see in your pic you light up the whole street, looks nice

Yes you can, I believe the bulbs are the same part at least for DDM Tuning so they can run at both 55w and 35w. However, if your system is *working* well with no issues, don't mess with it. HIDs have been the biggest pain to get working properly and I think the results aren't as factory reliable as they could be. That picture was at a local golf course parking lot at night but remember it has both fogs and low beams on so that's why it looks as bright as it does.

Thanks for the tech info, yeah I think I'll leave mine how it is, I also have my fogs Hid's as well, don't want to spend more money I have my lowering springs coming in on Wednesday. Can't wait to test drive it and see how it handles. And about the spending more money, well it's mostly cause the wifey won't bust my *****, she says I spend more money on that damb Benz then I do on her...... well don't we all, hahaha

Hahahaha no need to justify it man it's how it goes, post some pics when the lowering springs are in. One E55 guy around here comes to mind when at Cars & Coffee he was asking where he can find a local shop so he doesn't have to tell his wife his Benz is going in again for mods or repairs. I'm still in school and a ways off from marriage, but I have had a girl ask me if I love my car more than her. I just turned up the music a bit and tuned it out xD
