Is it the start of electrical problems?

Over the weekend, I started the car, the radio came on and then I turned the fog lights on. It was in that order. When I turned the fogs on the radio had a lot of static. I shut the car off and the radio kept playing even after I took the key out. I opened the door, still on....

So I shut the fog's off and off went the radio. I got out and back in, and put the key in, then no problem? Is this something I should address or is it an isolated case?

Let me know.

I had the exact same problem, and I mean exact - on my 2003 non Nav E320 with the HK sytem.

Just happened once, about 2 months, 2k miles ago (6k on the car now) and has never happened since.

Called the dealer, who said he'd never heard of it (obviously) and I figured I'd wait and see & deal with it if it happened again.

Me too. Has been happening with more frequency lately. Static, radio keeps playing even when shut off, etc. Also, I have the integrated phone and at least 50% of the time I turn the car on, I get a "phone off' message. I have to remove the phone from the handset and plug it back in. does the trick but is getting very annoying. I'm not surprised to hear your dealer saying they never heard of that. Don't you hate that? But I recall reading here that there was a software fix for this.

Chris,

I'm having the same radio problem in my Nav replacement car but I don't have the phone. My dealer has no clue. I'll let you know if something can be done. I think that the cold weather has something to do with the frequency of the problem in my car.

I had a similar radio problem and my dealer upgraded my software and installed a new dash display. Haven't seen that problem since but it didn't happen that often.

Now that I got the software update, I get to see the new display that shows what suspension your changing too. No big deal but a nice feature.

I have been experiencing more frequent problems with my HK stereo/Comand unit as well. Almost every other day, I would hear static upon starting the car. The CD unit at the top would eject the CD from time to time as well (both store-brought CDs and CD-Rs). I would really like to know if there's a software fix.

I had an issue with the radio going static and then not responding to off/on. Dealer replaced the display head unit (guage & instrument cluster). It solved the problem. For what its worth, they assured me before-hand that all of my systems were in deed running the latest software updates/patches.

It has also solved another complaint I've seen on this board concerning TELEMATIC malfunctions that occur when starting the car...

I'm taking my car in for the software upgrade on the HK sound system. Is it the software upgrade alone that enables the suspension display or was a new dash display also necessary in order to see the suspension display on the dash? Also, is the date the car was manufactured of any relevance? Is it possible to get the suspension display on an E500 produced in October 2002?

Thanks for any help.

My replacement E500 is a September build.

Does anyone know if the software upgrade is needed for the late '03 builds?? My biggest complaint is static on FM stations.

I did have a problem with the radio staying on after the key was removed and turning itself off once in awhile. Also, at the same time I was getting low battery warnings. I left it at the airport for three days and the battery was dead when I returned.
The dealer put in a new "BCM" or battery control module and I have had no problems since. (except for static on FM)
