I need to replace the passenger side headlamp on my 05. I bought the car thinking there was a missing clip but now I know better
Need to figure out a way to fix this with out spending big $$$$ on a new cover.

Is there a way around buying a new cover just for this? I am an avid DIY'er but not a body man by any means.
I am using pictures from this site for a better description.

Take the car to an approved MB body shop and ask them the question!!

Its hard to imagine that a shop that does it for living will give me the ins and outs on how I can do it myself. Taking to a shop to let them do it is an obvious way to get it done (And, I am sure they would be more than happy to do it) but not my first option nor the route I want to take unless there is no other way.
That was the reason for the info request on a DIY.
I could have paid my MB dealer to do my oil change and air and fuel filter change. I could have had them replace my B-pillar cover and the driver's side cracked headrest, but as i said on my post, I am an avid DIY'er and that's how I pretend to do the maintenance on my car, within my limitations of course. The rest I will gladly pay to get done, like I paid my MB dealer to do the alignment last week.
If you don't have a helpful answer why do you feel compelled to give a knuckle head answer?

The only DIY that comes to mind for that particular tab being broken is to replace the cover. Or live with it.

Might be a good opportunity to do a e63 bumper upgrade.

Well it is obvious with that attitude you will get squat for professional help---however you missed my point, I get folks asking for advice all the time and I typically give it freely and I firmly believe that if asked correctly most folks including body shops will do the same---I am not a body man and if I am asked a body question I refer

The bumper cover is almost perfect tho, except for that one tab so it would kill me to chuck it... I tend to be beyond frugal with that sort of stuff.
I know I can hack a way to "fix" it and make it work, just wanted to see if there was a known method. I did't know MB sold a headlamp tab repair kit until I read that on a forum. I figured mine was a valid question.

Well then you are much better man than most professionals by me!
I know from experience, that if I attempt to do that, the answer will be more like "sure, bring it here, we'll fix it!" But that's not what I am looking to do.
Coincidently I read a post the other day from someone asking for help setting up a DAS XENTRY in his computer and the answer by Plutoe was something like "take it back to the person who sold it to you, I get paid for that sort of thing"

Try using some hard wire mesh and heat gun or big soldering iron to heat the wire and melt the plastic. If you can get the wire mesh inside both pieces of plastic it will hold.
Or make aluminum plate and drill holes through the plastic and the plate and tight them with screws.

Thanks for the replies. As of now it looks like the front bumper cover will get replaced. Wife hit a snow embankment on Wed. afternoon and broke the same corner at bottom in a couple of places, ripped the fog light and inner fender cover clean off the car and fractured the front belly pan.
I will be taking the car to a shop later today to get a quote for the claim.

Got to see about that, I am looking into the DAS XENTRY and that's gonna set me back $750. My deductible is $500 as it is, plus IDK if I can talk the shop into working that swap in the claim.
On a sweeter note, I just landed a pair of OEM Xenon headlamps with all tabs intact, no scratches and complete with working ballasts and all bulbs for $200.00 May not be a killer deal but a decent one or so I think.

+1 for E63 bumper. This is the only chance you'll have to justify it since you already need a new bumper! Insurance will probably quote you ~$1300 or so maybe? -500 = 800. Going to guess e63 front bumper is around 500 which leaves you at 300 to use for paint, then self install and boom! Maybe add another $100-200 since you have a pre-facelift and need more parts.

Disclaimer: This is a COMPLETE list for doing the E63 front bumper conversion with the exception of the return springs for the washer nozzle covers and 4 plastic push pins for the inner plastic supports. These items are reusable from the old bumper assembly. Contrary to common belief, you do not need any other pieces outside of this list so do not even think about PMing with questions. I do not know anything about retrofitting other E63 parts so please do not PM me about that either. I have provided a part number for both the Distronic and non Distronic equipped grills. I have not provided a part number for a Parktronic bumper cover and do not recommend this conversion for Parktronic equipped cars as it involves extensive fabrication (BTDT). Please do not PM with any questions about doing a Parktronic conversion. Contrary to comments otherwise, the E63 and E55 sensors are very different and will not interchange.

Don't let that scare you. You should probably hit up Gary@Suvneer, very helpful guy. From what I'm aware, it looks like you will only need the grill, hood latch, plastic supports, and the reinforcements for the lower bumper.

+1 on this! you already have the facelifted headlights, why not go for the 63 conversion? Lemon is right, there is no better time to do it than now.

Do you have HID head lights, if not how you are planning to get the self leveling function on those headlights to work?

I think he just got a pair of face lifted projector headlights with an aftermarket bulb and ballast that has no self leveling or active curve stuff like the bi-xenons do. Could be wrong though..

And sometimes I just wish I never installed my front plates.. The pointy front bumper just looks so good and clean..

Isn't all that changed in the ECU via Star? My lights are genuine MB and do have the self leveling feature.

EDIT: Upon further reading and searching the interwebs, it looks like it will get a lot more involved but still plausible to do an OEM install. I guess I have to start looking for the sensors and harness extensions since my car doesn't have airmatic (thank God for that) I need to figure out where to get pat numbers for that.
Back to the drawing board
That'll be a summer project.

I have been waiting for someone to bump me at a stop sign so I can get the gash in the rear bumper fixed where my wife ran the snowblower into it.
P.S. It was just repainted to the tune of $800 a month before she did it.
