CPS replacment

What's up guys!

My car is running great but I'm considering replacing my CPS before it goes bad

I've read a few things about the CPS going bad and car won't start.
My car has 103k miles, I bought it last year with 96k miles and I don't have the maintenance records from the previous owner, so I don't know if and when they ever replaced the CPS.
Does any one know approx at what mileage this sensor can go bad?

Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, aren't they something like $50 for the sensor? Might as well just change it and call it preventative maintenance. I don't think there's really any approximate miles for this, it goes bad when it wants to go bad.

Yes they cost that price, I thought it might have an approx mileage when they go bad, exactly my thoughts , I'll just change it as preventive maintenance, would suck to break down on a weekend trip over a $50 part.

Thanks For replying

The new one could fail just as quickly. That in reliability engineering is called infant mortality. Why change many are out there running 200000 miles no issue. There are no moving parts just a coil of wire. Granted heat cool cycles will affect the life cycle but I never changed mine and sold the car at 135000 miles and like an energizer,, the CPS was still going.

Well that good to know. If mine ever goes bad will a code come up on the display? Do you know the symptoms of a CPS if it goes bad?

Thanks
