2003 E320 HID UPGRADE

Hello Everyone,

So I just recently bought a 2003 E320 Sedan, and am looking into upgrading
to HID's (6000k) for the low beam. Also I've been looking places for bulb sizes for
low beams on this car, some places are telling me that its H7 or DS2, and also would like to know if this car already has projectors like some people say.

Would greatly appreciate if someone could set this straight for me.

H7 if you have halogens, (yellowish stock color) and DS2 bulbs is if you have bi-xenons. All w211s have projectors.

I have decided on H7 5000k bulb, but any brands you recommend?
Currently trying to decide between DDM Tuning(ships from china) and
Kensun Kensun

Thank you for your super fast response saved me much time

A couple people here have the DDM kits, they seem to work fine. I've never heard of Kensun so I can't comment on that.

I have the moromoto 5Five (50w) ballasts and they've been going solid for years now (on my Jetta)

If choose a 5000k bulb will 35w vs a 50w make a color difference, and I won't get any yellow tint right?

No. Color temperature of a bulb is based on the Kelvin scale. 4300k or less will have the yellow look. 5000k is pure white. 6000k is white with a slight blue tint to it. 8000k is blue. A 35w or 55w kit will only have a difference in light output.

55w in comparison to 35w will have a slight color wash-out but it won't be noticeable with 5000k nor will it be yellow. For instance I did a 6000k 55w low beam and a 35w 5000k fog light and the low beams are still a bit more blue but they are washed out in comparison to a 35w 6000k... if you want to color match just go with the same temperature regardless of wattage and the difference will be negligible as Lemon said as it just becomes an issue when you have a tinted color with your lights.

As far as brands, I will go with ShinyHypnotoad on this one - the Morimoto kits sound the best for the price and problems. However, I went with DDM Tuning and found while it works well with the BOW3 error eliminators, you will need to wire a 2200uf capacitor in between the car's power input and the ballast (on the bulb wiring) to get it to work correctly in my experience so the ignitors work properly as they pull less amperage than halogen and thus the car's CANBUS sensor will think the bulb is out and stop sending power to it. DDM Tuning quality has gone down ever since they started manufacturing their ballasts in China and their support/RMA program is terrible - it actually costs less in time and money to just buy a new part.

As for your high beams if you want 5000k matching high beams, go with Phillips DiamondVision halogens they are pretty comparable to the output of a 55w DDM Tuning HID system just with a higher cutoff.
