How Much Can it handle?

Just curious how much HP/TQ the E500 block can handle before needing to build the bottom end and forging the pistons/internals. How about the new 7G Tranny? With the head compression 10:0:1, I don't think it can take too much more power. I know the AMG cars already have forged pistons and rods/internals.

You'd be surprised what a 10:1 motor can handle. You came from the C5 camp and have seen some 10:1 ATI Pro Charger cars that would put out easily over 500 RWHP. Tuning and fuel delivery are critical factors in the longevity of any motor (especially forced induction) motors. I'd think the weak link is the 7G trans, because if it were strong enough, or tested enough, they'd have put it in the 04 E55. As you know, the E55 doesn't come with this trans. If you're going to mod it, and had a good chunk of mod dough, you could just get a Kleeman blower set up for it. I'm not sure what they cost, but are rumored to have 650 hp. 650 hp is a good start, huh? Good luck!

ahhh...ATI! I actually bought a ATI D-1SC Procharger for my C5 and with my 10:8:1 compression (Stage II Heads), my tuner was estimating close to 520 Rear Wheel Horspower (with 20% drivetrain loss, that would be close to 620 to the flywheel) with my Single Intercooler Setup. To handle the power, I even bought a FLP Level IV bulletproof tranny, Racetronix Fuel Pump, Bosch/SVO 42 lb Injectors, and NGK plugs . With 10:8 compression, I was somewhat skeptical my bottom end could handle the power and I never installed the SC or Tranny. I agree, the 7G is probably the weak link as it's not proven. The car will probably be only lightly modded (bolt on mods) as I would like to look for another sports car once the power itch comes back. Here's a pic of my ATI SC that I took a pic on the S500.

The weakest part on the LS1/ls6's are the rod bolts, and the second ring lands on the pistons likes to go bye bye. The cranks are INCREDIBLY strong and can take over 800 BHP! They are works of art. What did you do with the ProCharger? It sounds like it was set-up very well, and would've made a heck of a nice street/race car. You would've been fine with good tuning.

If you're going to do bolt ons on your E500, I think that it'd be ok. Other than balancing/blueprinting the motors (and of course the blower), I don't know what the differences in the E500 and the E55 motors are (as far as parts go). Good Luck!
