Chrome Rims or Not ?

Are chrome rims still in ? Recently one of our members posted a pic of his E320 w/ chrome dipped rims -- looks sharp and considering doing it to mine - when I receive it in January

Wanted the groups honest opinion ... are chrome dipped rims a thing of the past ?

Attached was the picture posted .... thoughts ?

i believe they are in, but i think it depends where you live. in socal, every single escalade has atleast 20's, but on a benz they look very clean. i say go for it.

I dont like chromes at all, they are not very attractive. I personally like the standard wheels.

Chrome looks nice on black cars - not on silver cars ;0)

Re: Chrome Rims or Not ?

Coming from the Vette crowd, I can say they are still in as many owners would chrome their Y2K 5 spoke or Z06 rims and they look sharp. Just find a good place because my chromies started to peel after 3 years and I never drove my car in the winter and hardly in rain (it was mostly a garage queen). I actually bought mine from a reputable shop in California. I personally like the high polished look but if you like the chrome I say go for it!

Are you getting the Sport package? If you live in the area I would consider a trade. What color is your car?

I personally have never been a fan of chrome on 'stockies' but if you are going to do it make sure it is black or white. You are NOT getting it from the dealer chromed....right??

Yes they are 841 reverse bolt. They are now 'ghettoized' chrome though HRE's are sweet but very expensive lol

Thanks for the pics. The chromes really do look good on black. Guess I'll opt for chroming in the Spring.

I personally don't like the chrome look, but as sf49ers said, it is a matter of personal taste.

I personally prefer the non-chrome look.

Buy what you like!

I personally wouldn't go chrome myself...but if it floats your boat, then go for it. Also like it has been said before, go chrome on a black or white car. Anything else would look kind of off IMHO...

I personally wouldn't do it but it's all in the eye of the beholder. If it floats your boat, more power to you. Also like it has been said before, go chrome only on black or white cars, anything else would look kind of off IMHO...

Post Chrome Rims

Mercedes has a Service Information re Chrome plating ref MBNA 40/18

Subject Chrome Plating of alloy wheels

Chrome Plating is NOT recommended

But The Dealers still plate the wheels
And They Pit/ Peel/Rust/leak

If You Want the look Polish Them then clear coat the wheels
So When You Curb the wheels you can repolish them...

I just painted my stockers and polished the lips. No clear coat which makes fixing a little curb rash a 30 minute job.

Has anyone tried Zoop Seal? It's supposed to prevent dulling of polished aluminum but for $129 I'm looking for aome testimonials first.

E55AMG99 - thanks for the feedback. If you have any pics of your rims cleared and polished, would love to see em.

Great idea !

Local dealer still has them displayed in the service area for $1308 per set exchange even though MB does not recommend chrome over their alloys.
