Voice Command Not Working

Since the voice command has very limited usefulness, we haven't used it in years. Nonetheless, you can use it to dial phone numbers, so I tried using it today to no avail. While the car is running and the Command screen is on (playing a CD), I tried pulling the stalk toward myself, but it doesn't "beep." Hence, it doesn't respond to any commands. I checked all the fuses and they are all fine.

Any ideas? Thanks.

My 2008 GL does that same. (I have heard the module is essentially the same).

Mine died some time during the previous owners time, but he never used it so did not know.

I have been told I need to buy a new module, but have not bit the bullet yet. (ebay module is the same as the diagnostic fee, so I am still just guessing)

Hmmm. Great quality control. Something that I used maybe 5 times goes dead. And to top it off, it probably went dead while my car was still under warranty but I didn't even know it. Where is the module and is it easy to swap out?

It is easy to sway out, but I don't know where it is on an E. (Our E does not have VC)

There is a write-up somewhere that tell you how to add it, so that would show where the module is.

DTB P-B-82.70/675 released 2/09 MY08 221 & 219 produced between 5/1/07 - 11/30/07 defective unit installed at production (hardware error), replace CU. Check your PM.

Any chance this would apply to a X164 in the same time period.
I am very sure the hardware module is the same (even if the SW is slightly different)

164.822 does have same VCS CU and part # is current but no notes in EPC (i.e.: applicable bulletin) 82.70/675 only applies to 211 & 219.
