how do you get the rds feature to work?

one my bimmer some radio stations would have text come up, and i can't seem to get it to work with my new car, anyone know? another problem with the radio is when i'm using the steering wheel controls to change the station it doesn't change them to the presets i have, it just changes the tuning. also how the hell do you fast forward or rewind a cd?

Not sure about RDS (I thought it was a Euro-Spec only thing but it might be on the 211) but as far as rewinding/ff-ing a CD, I don't think you can do that from the steering wheel controls. That can only be done by the headunit. As far as the buttons only switching to presets, I think that's a configurable option in your multifunction display - you just have to choose the options that says tune by preset.

thanks i'll check it out, as far as the cd rw and ff, i can't get it to work on the comand unit either. also i dunno why the comand wouldn't have rds, i thought most car manufacturers make this standard with their audio system

the inability to cycle through the radio presets with the steering wheel controls has been established by many owners here, and is not fixed on the 2004s.

also, as I recall from previous posts, the head unit does not have RDS. MB is way behind on head unit and radio technology.

you live in NJ I see. If you don't get text with 104.3 FM from NYC, it doesn't work.

Hold down the Seek buttons for ff and rw on a CD track.

No go on the RDS. Surprising that it doesn't have it, but I have found that many of the NY stations don't broadcast it anyway.

The presets thing has been discussed a lot, and it personally does not make any sense the way it is right now.

my only guess is that they do not understand that some of these seemingly small things that are missing, really irritate the car owner.
