Strange audible alarm/chime Sound
Hello all- I've been a member/lurker-ha,ha,ha- for a few months. I have learned A LOT from the forums, so thanks guys/gals. I have searched for help on this issue to no avail: I have a 05 4matic 500 wagon; recently i have heard a "weird" alarm/chime while driving. Out of the blues, an alarm sound that lasts about 1-3 seconds. It is a fairly high pitched chime. NO messages show on the info cluster. It is NOT the seatbelt chime, since we were belted. Not the parking brake, cause I get a big-red reminder in dash. It has happend about 4-5 times in the past few months. I can't record it, since it happens without warnings. When it occurs: it has only happened in day time; I believe my sunroof had been opened (in tilt positon); happens when I have a passenger in front seat; AC/Heater is off; radio/CD was playing; it has happended 2x while driving(50-60mph) and 2x as i started to drive off from stand-still.
Any ideas on what is the cause, and how to reslove??
P.S- I have Keyless Go & push-start on shifter; could it be the remote battery dying(just came to mind)??
Thanks for any help, D

all programmed audible sounds are generated within the instrument cluster----does the sound imitate a programmed sound like seat belt and or parking brake or bla bla

Hi plutoe- I would say it doesn't seem like a programmed sound in the cluster. It sounds like the chime/sound is coming from somewhere in the middle of the car; like center console/rear AC vents area. Since it happens so quickly, I can't pinpoint the area exactly. I guess the question to ask is: What are ALL of the instances when an alarm or chime will go off in 05-W211? That way i can eliminate what is not happening in my car?!?!? does that makes sense?
thanks for any input.....

Hmmmmm... Do you let small children with electronic toys in your car? Small electronic toys that could get wedged somewhere annoying? :-)

@Honcho- I acually don't have toys/small kids in the car. Hmmmm, maybe the previous owner did and a toy is stuck somewhere with a dying battery!?!?!?! Will look into that....
Thx, D

I had a fully loaded 04 E500 (sedan) years ago that would emit a high pitched beeeep every so often randomly. The best I could do was identify it was coming from somewhere over the drivers left shoulder rearward.
Back then, the common belief on the forum was that it was a kinked air hose from a rear compressor that was feeding the air bladders in the dynamic front seats which would wheeze from the kink in the air line every so often.
Do you have dynamic front seats? Not sure if this applies to you, but I'm throwing this out there. If it was a warning beep, it would come from the dash.

Hi 45RPM- By George, you may have found the problem; I DO have dynamic seats! How did you resolve it??
I will check around under both front seats to see if any kinking is happening.
@plutoe- I didn't see the attachement; what was it about?
Will report by in a day or so my findings......thx.
