What you fail or failed to understand is that if a system light comes on and goes out, electronically there is a message in the control modules memory--they are then read with the factory or equal diagnostics---So your head or otherwise in the sand approach is just that------- delayed gratification.Or simply forget the warnings drive the car and get on with your life!!

I will agree with you that 320 bucks is sorta high. I am going to have to raise my fifty buck diagnostic fee----I am leaving too much money on the table. Thanks

Update.

On 09/20, I see ESP light on in the morning, but there was no engine light on. And drove to a dealer and explained what it had happened ever since June. He asked me $149.99 for diagnosis for the light. (it could have been double if i had the engine light on ^^. thanks for not the engine light on the sight ^^).

And I had used a loaner car upto today. All I paid was $450 and some change. See the description on the receipt and share me some idea. Do I expect something else sooner or later??

Update 10/04

After 10 days of the sensor replacement, the ESP light came back on. So I took it to the dealer who did it.

I was advised that there is NO code from a computer but there is 'pinning' in a connector so that have to repair cables by disconnected them and check each of them and put it back to a module. And it estimated $500.

What do you think? I would say...I take the car back as it is and wait until a specific code shows up and bring it back to the dealer.

Or, I have to ask a good will on the estimate and fix it now.

I have no idea what to...give me cheers.

BTW, is DIY possible to re-pin them???

If repair was done by MB dealer initially MB warrants repair for 12months/unlimited mileage bring it back, speak with the service manager and have them revisit at no cost – initial complaint paid for out of pocket is still unresolved.

Update 10/07.

After 3 times(2 hours in total) phone calls with SA. I did not even have to talk to SM, I finally got it done at good will.

I can see that he had done a lot on mine. However, it seems to me that it could have done at first visit without replacing the sensor. What do you think?

After 10 minutes of starting the car, ESP Light back on. This time Engine is also on after 3 minutes. I brought it to the dealer where initially repaired. And wait for their response.

Questions:

I found, from first 2 receipts(post#27, #30), that there were same exact codes;0089, 0085, 5314. I paid first bill but no payment on a 2nd bill.

What if the dealer manipulate the bill and asks me to pay?

What argument(s) that I have to prepare?

Please advise me

I was told from a SA that they keep seeing those 3 codes and they had to look into deeply yesterday. And today I got a phone call saying a whole TB should be replaced because TB is a computer-like so whole thing should be replaced at $2100 and some change. Is it convincing enough???

Please advise me.

Update: 10/27

SA informed that whole throttle body should be replaced at $2100. Is throttle body related to ESP? If the diagnosis shows 3 initial code; 0089, 0085 and 5314, can 12-month repair warranty be honored?

What argument do I have to prepare to deal with the repair? if the diagnosis is correct

Please help me out~

Thanks a lot !! Dan.

I met a SA yesterday and I was informed that they looked back to 2008 record from ME and a throttle valve actuator should be replaced. And it is $1800 and some change. First repair cost would be discounted from $1800 so that a revised cost would be around $1400.

My questions are

1. ESP light really relates to Throttle Valve Actuator?

2. I was told actuator costs about $600, then $1200 for labor is fair?

3. I gave SA to go ahead to do it, do I still have a chance to negotiate the final cost? I did not meet SM yet just in case?

Please advise me. $1400 is still big damage to my current situation.

Update 11/03

11/01, I did pick up the car with paying $1360 and some change.

11/02, ESP light came back only after 57 mile driving. An email sent to the SA, cc with service director.

11/03, reply from the SA, they are greatly sorry for it and asked me to bring the car back in.

MBUSA has a record of my service just in case.

What expectations that I can look for?

Any advice is welcome.

Update 11/07.

I picked up the car on 11/07. I saw the receipt saying the followings are replaced.

Cables
Cable Connectors
Hardness
etc.

There were nothing related to Throttle Valve Actuator. I met Service Manager and Service Director in order to get a refund on the misdiagnosed repair. I was advised we could talk in a month once the problem is considered to get solved.

I am pretty sure that there was a CONNECTION problem, nothing with a sensor nor an actuator. I would like to get advice from you on how to make a convincing argument when I negotiate with them.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks~~~

I've had this problem for several weeks now; it happens only when going over a bump or speed breaker at very slow speed. Darn ESP light goes off each time I turn the ignition off and it does not display codes with the engine running and light on, at least on my code reader. No codes were detected at the dealership either. Steering alignment was done at MB and I visually checked ABS/Speed sensor cables. Since the car is lowered and has been for over two years, running flawlessly, however it is quite possible a harness or something was damaged during a rear tire blowout/shredding during my extreme virtually non-stop coast to coast drive. It could be any number of things. 1. Rear tires are different to fronts since they were replaced after the blowout 2. Brake pads and rotors though looking good may need replacing 3. Found out about a lateral sensor (this may explain why the light comes on while hitting a sharp edged bump at low speed) 4. Someone said the Keyless Go Key may be the problem (Just changed mine to the spare one; have to see what happens)

My car had similar issues. You mentioned they changed the cable, connector and etc. Do you mean the cable of the sensor? can you show the picture or reply to me to pthromma@yahoo.com? Thanks, Paul
