Radar Detector Placement

Finally getting around hard wiring my 9500ix so I can ditch the suction cup mount and coiled chord running down to the cigarette lighter, but I can't decide where to place the mount. Right now it's just above the dash to the right of the center speaker. As I see it there a three options... low and to the left of the center speaker, high and behind the rear view mirror, or above and to the left of the rear view mirror, next to the rain and light sensors. I'm presuming I can run the power to the aux battery under the hood.

Getting a dash cam has been in the back of my mind for some time now, and I've decided to go ahead and get one. Found one that has excellent resolution and reviews (http://www.lukashd.com/eng/product_i...kbox_14_1.html

). I'll mount it out of my view on the other side of the rear view mirror. One of the reviews got me thinking about getting one for out the back! Seems there is even a package set up for that. Decisions decisions!
As for the radar detector, I've got a new plan. Gonna put it to the left of the instrument cluster "hump". Still not sure whether to go with dash mount or windshield. The windshield is curved enough there that they only mount I can find is a big ole suction cup deal, which makes me lean to the dash mount. I also like the dash mount because it's less noticeable from outside, and easier to reach from inside, but I don't want to muss up the dash. If the 'installed' radar detectors weren't so disruptive to the whole interior I'd be very tempted to lay out the cash for that.

I have the 9500i detector, and would like to have a dash cam as well, but live in NYC and mounting anything permanently is advertisement for thieves. So, my RD and Bluetooth receiver are stowed away except when in use.
Has anyone installed a quick-connect power supply at the upper console near the mirror?

I should consider getting one, really - what else do you have to protect yourself from the sea of dumb drivers and batsh*t morons out there lol? So you're hard wired to the power in the unit above the mirror? What kind of dashcam do you have again?

It's actually just tapped to the front cig lighter under the ash tray. All the wires are just neatly tucked away under the glove box, inside the A pillar, inside the unit behind mirror, and so forth, leaving only the tip of the power cord exposed. I have a BlackVue DR500GW-HD which in my opinion is an okay and good camera but doesn't really wow me. I have some simple day and night footage if you're interested. https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...-dash-cam.html

For some reason the video isn't loading for me at work, but interesting. I was also considering getting a GoPro or something of the sort and just charging it every day, and only saving and pulling footage from it if something happens.

I wouldn't waste money on the GoPro dealio. Too bulky and not designed for the application. Take a look at the Lukas LK Series I linked to above. Specifically designed for dash cams, and many options / versions.
