My E500 Muffler Delete Experience!
Now, enough about the past and on to the reason you're all here for. One of the very active forum members here is actually a good friend of mine. His names AMGAffalterbach. He helped me alot with the buying process and gave me great advice. The first time I saw his car I fell in love. It looks beautiful and sounds AMAZING! So I followed his thread which I will link at the end of this post. Once again id like to thank him, this exhaust sounds amazing.

So my E500 had the base bumper which covers up the exhausts. I could have cut the bumper and saved a few bucks but I decided to go the expensive route. Now unfortunately I dont have a picture of my car with that bumper on but it looked exactly like this.

So I purchased a new E63 AMG bumper and got it painted and threw her on.

Next, without much research I ordered these tips off ebay.

80% of these tips that youll find online are like these. BE WARNED They neglect to show you that the exhaust comes out the bottom, not the tips. Youll see what I mean soon. So if you care, do some research and find some real tips. They might cost a bit more but youll get what you want. I didnt really care so I went ahead and continued.
I first took the car to Miadas becuase a friend got his tips put on there and it was close to my house so I went for it. They said the angles on the tips made it impossible for them to install AFTER they said they could do it and cut off my mufflers. So they told me id have to invest in some new tips for it to work. So I drove around for a day with no mufflers and no tips. The car sounded good but it droned HORRIBLY at 1800 - 2000 RPM which is exactly where it runs at when I drive normally. So I decided to give those tips one last try. I went down to a shop ive known for a while called Amigos Muffler Shop in Denver. Hes honestly a great down to earth guy and is very good at what he does. He took a quick look at it and said he could do it!
So I showed him the picture of AMGAffalterbach's J pipe from his thread and told him I wanted it to be 29 inches long. Keep in mind theres a j pipe on both sides. He quickly threw it up on the lift and started on it. Heres how it ended up looking.

Notice where the exhaust actually comes out on these stupid tips. I might change them later but now that I think about it, they will stay clean and it doesn't look any different so i might just leave it. So anyway heres the car now.

He had to put the tips on a little lower because there was barely any clearance but im getting a diffuser soon which should make it look a lot better. Ill take some better pictures tomorrow!
So the drone is ALOT better I can barely hear it now and the car sounds amazing. I will put up a video soon. As for now, there is a video of my friends car on his thread. His is an E550 but the sounds are very close. I ended up spending almost $900 in total including the bumper and paint and im very happy with it. Again id like to thank AMGAffalterbach for his great advice and thanks everyone for putting up with my blabbing

Another thing I want to note here is how happy I was to confirm J pipes made a huge difference. Whether it was a result of the exhaust outlet being slightly behind the bumper before the tips were put on or a result of the J pipes themselves is up for debate, but it's insane how much drone the Helmholtz resonators eliminated. From the outside it's almost indistinguisable from the E550.
Can't wait to see a naaasty diffuser on there! Good work!
