Hooray! It's here (finally)

I finally picked up my E500!!! What a ride! It moves with complete command and elegance.

Two things I like the most are the keyless go and the drive dynamic seats! The one thing I can't fathom that MB couldn't get right is the Nav system. Even my portable Garmin system allows complete entry of street address instead of a wide range of addresses.

That gripe aside, I'm looking forward to taking this beauty on its first long drive (1200 miles) during Christmas holidays.

Congrats, this car is fun. I agree, I'm still playing with keyless go and dd seats. But only the dynamic side bolsters are cool on the dd seats, nothing else (like the pulse, etc) are impressive.

The heated seats, that is also awesome, now that it is colder...I parked in the garage yesterday and just sat in the seat for few minutes, it is like nice electric blanket.

Also, today it was cool outside, but very sunny, and when I got in the car after lunch, the vent was running from the solar panels. Did not even realize it, but the car would have been very hot if this was not on, because it was quite sunny outside, and so the car would have been very hot inside even though it was probably only in the 60's outside.

I'm quite disappointed with the parktronic, it seems a little useless, you have to get too close to something for it to light up and also the headlights have very, very poor range, that is a little hard to get adjusted to for me...what are your thoughts?

I've found lights to be okay. I haven't driven the car much in areas with light traffic in the night time to truly gauge the quality and range of headlamps. On the other hand, I found the high beam setting to be spectacular. While fiddling with lights driving in my neighborhood, I found the high beam practically illuminated houses upto 100 yards away.

I'm sure there are thousand really neat features that you would think only MB can deliver and few truly glaring annoyances (such as Nav) that will make you think - did MB design this!

I also thought that the headlights have a little bit of a short range, but the high beams are awesome.

I find the Parktronic very useful. The key is that you must be going slow for it to truly be useful. My garage is very tight to get in and out of of, plus it is on an angle, so I've probably saved my self hundreds in damages so far.

I echo alewifebp's thoughts. The parktronic has been extremely useful for me especially when parallel parking in those tight spots.

I'm curious about the lights I find the active bi-xenons perfect, in both high and low beam.

I do not think they were referring to the Bi-Xenon's. I too agree they are very good.

Congratulations on your delivery. And, believe it or not, my car has STILL not been delivered and is nowhere in sight. I said I was considering cancelling. Well, now that you have your car, I am convinced that I will cancel my order tomorrow, for sure.

What a shame!

I'm thinking more and more there is something wrong with my parktronic. In fact, the tech has some parts on order, but I don't know if it is just cosmetic parts because the led on one side are dim, or actually sensing type parts.

I've seen some wierd behavior, like if I stop the car on the road and there is nothing at all near the car, the 1 segment will still light up on both sides. Or sometimes I will be pulling straight into the garage (no obstacles, rectangular typical garage) and the left side will light up 3-4 segments and nothing on the right. Once I pulled into the garage and no segments lit up, I stopped the car, just put it in reverse and moved the car slightly back, and all the leds in the front lit up, even though I moved AWAY from the front wall.

Have you guys seen this kind of inconsistent behavior?

Congradulations on the delivery of your car! I could imagine the excitement you must feel.

I am anxiously awaiting the delivery of my E-500 the end of this month. I've got a vin number so I know it's on the way.

Question...what color are your gauges???

While the Parktronic has not been totally perfect (it can be sensitive to debris on the sensor, I guess, but sometimes when in close proximity to other cars, I will get nearly full on the left side, even though there is plenty of room. Typically gets confused after a more dramatic stop. Otherwise it works flawlessy. So, I would say that something is wrong with yours if it does that to you.

Congratulations on the new car!!!

abhansali:

On my pre-nav car, the only time that the led's would come on when they were not supposed to is when it was raining and water would run down when I stopped..not all the time but it was obvious what it was.
Also, when driving across country, I would get a big bug splatter on one of the sensors...that would set it off when you come to a stop

On my replacement, one of the led's goes off for no reason. I haven't taken it in yet, but have no reason to think that it will be simple to fix.

Overall, I like the parktronic. Once you get the feel of what it is telling you, it is great.

Regarding the color of gauges in Appearance Package, well, they are still white. They look completely awesome at night!

Few issues I have had since I picked up the car last week have fortunately been no biggies. There was a problem with the drained battery that caused the alarm system to go off while the car was inside the garage. The dealer sent a new battery in less than one hour, and everything got back to normal. A couple of times I've found that the clock resets itself to some random hour. Today, while driving I found the lumbar support cushion started inflating for no reason at all. I guess, I can live with these minor hiccups as long as the rest of the electronics continue to cooperate.

I keep coming back to the inadequate Navigation system. Just for grins, I tried to look up my dealer's address in the nav, and it couldn't point me to the exact location. Imagine, the nav system taking you to the street and then asking you to find the actual destination yourself. Go figure!

I agree the nav is not great. I was not sure if I would like the non-touch screen (I have the touch screen nav in my Honda minivan), but not having touch screen is annoying. Also on the Honda, the dealer location are all pre-programmed into the Nav, so you can easily find them anywhere in the country if needed.

My 1 segment lights up on both sides under 9 mph so, I believe that's normal and meant to show the system has engaged.

It is strange nothing lit up when you parked the car but then all leds lit up when you put the car in reverse. I have a cone in the garage as a marker. Each time I park, all the leds light up because I pull up very close to the cone. When I start the car up and put it in reverse, the leds light up again but only for a second or so as the rear leds activate. Sounds as if your parktronic is malfunctioning. I hope it's fixed soon so you can enjoy it.

abhansali,

The manual is very slim on details about hom Parktronic works, so this is just my guess at how it works. The single lights on each side come on when you slow down as an indicator that the system is "armed". Parktronic only works below a certain speed. Also, I've found the system has a left and right side for each the front and back. So when you pull into the garage, only one side is activated because there are obstaceles or a wall there (assuming the other side of a 2 car garage is empty).

On mine, the front is active when in reverse. I don't know why.

What I don't like about the system is it doesn't beep until the red lights come on. I think it should have a slow beep when the yellow lights come on, and a solid tone when the red comes on. Our Ford Expediation is like that (no lights though) and is much easier to use.
