What is this rubber deteriorating part under my trunk lid
Can someone tell me what is this part under my trunk lid? (See picture)
It made of rubber and seems to be deteriorating.
I can't understand the purpose of this part and what is the part number?

I would guess to keep the trunk lid perfectly aligned.

Just replaced the tubular frame gas strut on the battery side in the trunk. 2009 SL550.
Got one from FCP Euro "Mercedes Trunk Lid Frame Shock" SKU: STB-9961UO
"Mercedes Trunk Lid Frame Shock - Stabilus 2307500136
SL500, SL55 AMG, SL550, SL600, SL63 AMG, SL65 AMG"
Replacement took ~5min. Flipped the trunk lid back (by starting roof opening sequence..) without putting the trunk lid in the high up service position...then from the side of the car reached easily in to unhook the metal clips on the top and bottom...
New gas strut can be pushed in with just a little bit of pressing on the ball joint connector.
Done.
