Compare the 2008 E350 sport vs luxury sedan

I'm wondering what people think about the differences between the E350 sport sedan 4matic and the E350 luxury sedan 4matic. I am going to buy one of them...just not sure which one. I've heard the sport model eats up tires, that the front and rear wheels are a different size. I've heard the sedan is a great ride...what about the sport...is that equal or less. I'm guessing the sport has more power. Any comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I just got my 2008 E350 Sport sedan last month. I would have preferred the luxury model but if you want more options, it's typically on a sport model. Front and rear are the same size, they use 245/40/18. Different sizes might be the E550 or AMG models. Power wise it should be the same, they both have the same engine and they both have the Comfort and Sport mode on the transmission. On Nadaguide, the sport model was worth more than the luxury model although the sport option was a no cost option when the car came out. Reason I went for sport was because they all have headlamp washers as a no cost option. I've only seen one or two luxury models that had headlamp washers and that was only because they had the P2 package which includes bixenon and keyless go. Most E350s are bare bones, basically the P1 package. They might have one or two other options like the wood steering wheel, fold down rear seats, real leather, trunk closer, keyless go, bi-xenon, panoramic sunroof, parktronic, etc, but usually only one or two. Most ads don't even really mention factory options, just the standard stuff. I've seen many ads which claimed it was fully loaded with basically just the P1 package which pretty much all of them had. Best bet is to run it through a vin decoder to see what options it really has.

What do you know about the DVD Command Navigation. That's what the car has. Is that any good? The model year of the car is 2007.

The cars are almost the same. I think all 4-matic of that generation used the same wheels on all four corners.
Sport had 18" and Lux had 16" (I think).
Sport non-4-Matic may have had staggered wheels, but not sure
Supposedly the suspension is a little firmer on the sport. (I find the sport plenty comfortable and make several all-day drives every year)
Sport dash has revered colored dials (and I think looks much better)
Sport shows exhaust, and Lux hides the exhaust.
Acceleration, braking and most other specs are the same.
Command is the same, I don't think it had DVD Movie support.
Nav is very 2003, but works.

Seems most I found when looking (at 2007s in 2010) were sport.

The DVD command navigation gets pretty horrible reviews. Takes a long time to put in an address and it's not even a touch screen. Also you don't put in a number, it's an address range like it could be 1-99. It was improved in 2009 but a 2009 is probably 3-5k more than a 2008. I have a Garmin which I prefer to use if I remember to bring it with me. Also be careful with 2007, those are the ones with the balance shaft issue, but they were fixed after the 10/2006 build date so make sure the 2007 is after that or read the thread about the class action suit a few threads down.

Lux had the 17" wheels. Sport has lower suspension, about 1/2 inch over lux. I also like the white gauges on the sport. I think Lux would be better in the city if you have potholes and speed bumps as it's easier to pop a tire/rim with 18" instead of 17" rims. In terms of ride, it's pretty smooth and quiet, very firm over bumps. I like all the options mine had so I ended up with sport.

It does take a while to peck in the address into the NAV, but it will get you there... always. There are no Voice Commands for NAV or Sirius XM.

You input:
City
Street Name Full... or partial street entry <List> select from list
Exact House Number
You will then be asked to confirm that your exact address is within one of several ranges of addresses listed Even and Odd alternately, so it knows to route you so that you will be driving with the passenger side of the car on the same side of the street as the house.
If it is still not sure, it gives you a list of all the zip codes the address might be found in. Always have the zip code just in case.
Then press Start Route Guidance <OK>

BTW, SW 15th Drive is entered like this: 15th Drive <List> select SW.

Its crude but you don't have any suction cupped device with dangling wires.

I have a 2007 E550 Sport. On RWD cars you have:

Staggered Wheels/Tires - Can't rotate, but my Michelin MXM4s give me 40,000 miles.
Dual Spoke 18 in wheels
Black Wood
Visible thru the bumper exhaust tips
Blue tinted Glass except windshield
LED Stop Lamps
Sport grille (different number of slats)
Different fog lights, more aggressive styled side skirts and bumpers

some other crap I just can't think of off hand.

BTW only the '07 has silver wheel hub caps and hood star base, the 08 & 09 & 03 thru 06 all had blue trimmed wheel caps & hood star base with the wreath.

You also have good voice directions and a turn display on the dash.

I forgot the blue glass (and dimming side mirror).
I think the LED tail lights are part of P2

Can confirm. I have a luxury model with no LED taillights.. lol

And JDiddy, if you're looking at an 08 E, it's probably best to throw in the extra dollar for an 09 E class. It's well worth it.

OK, so without more information, we KNOW a P2 Sport has LED and a P1 Lux has regular.

Seems to me LED taillights are more closely related to Xenon headlights than to the Sport appearance package. (Of course, I am not an MB marketing manager.)
