They tried to steal my car - NYC
Ok, so I just came outside at 2pm and found my drivers door window all the way down, and the interior full of dirt and dust blown in from the street, in front of my house. When I inspected the car, I found a bag with about 40 fake keys under the car. In fact, these were fake also because they were all usb drives! I called the police and told them what happened, they came and took the keys a few minutes ago and did not file a report since there was no theft or damage to the car.
Looking online, I'm aware of newer cars being wirelessly hacked by laptop or even phone, but why was my car not stolen and just the window down, nothing missing, and an entire bag of fake keys left?
I'm weirded out.

Scary. Your keys should be mated with your car and unless they know the programmed access code that was mated to the car and key, i don't think they can start your car. Scary though. Glad your car is still safe.

Thanks. I'm so confused as to why they would have a bunch of fake mercedes key fobs that are usb drives and what it has to do with them getting inside my car.

Ironically, I just did an eBay search, they sell those things for $9.95 each shipped out of a warehouse in East Elmhurst, Queens.
