U0101 TROUBLE CODE

My 2007 E350 throw a U0101 Lost Communication with TCM fault code out of the blue. Wife drove to and from work and the next morning the transmission would not shift past 1st. Did some research of the fault and the repair and the cost could be anywhere from $400 - $2000. I have a good indy mechanic that I trust but have anyone experienced this problem?

Who detected the fault and what diagnostic equipment did they use--more importantly did they suppy you with a quick test listing all the faults??

Pulled the code myself, it's a generic code. When I talked to my indy mb mechanic he said that the most common for that code is a electrical conductor plate which is a common problem in 7G transmissions. That was the only fault that showed up. the transmission went into limp home mode. is there a specific code reader that should be used?

Well that sure is a huge leap of faith advising a faulty conductor plate without using good diagnostic equipment---never the less ask him if he uses DAS Xentry---if he grunts or stammers----runaway and find someone who knows MB's.

The MB mechanic that I use is not a slug, he runs a reputable shop with 15 years experience as a MB tech. He was not advising but was implying that this was the most common problem with these transmissions and upon further research I found that this is true even in the early life of the transmission. Are you aware of this problem with the MB 7 speed transmission. Just doing my due diligence before I take it into my MB guy. You got any feedback on the 7 speed transmission?

What feed back--it's all misinformation, false conclusions, shoulda coulda woulda and very bad advice until the car in question gets tested with factory or equal diagnostic software---then thats my feedback!

WGAS if 1000 transmissions outa 1,000,000 develop and issue---is that significant to your untested car???
