Angry Buying an E in Hong Kong

Well i this close to buying a new W211 here and what do i have to work with? NOTHING!!

First off there is only 1 official distributer of Mercedes-Benz in HK and they also happen to be the only official Dealer/Service center as well. They have 1 2003 E240 avantgarde capri/stone for sale, priced at $65K USD, no discount available, and they wont throw in anything at all...well maybe some floormats. HK licence fee will amount to about $1K per year and the insurance directly from the dealer is around $2600 per year.

If i wait and order one with my specs i have to wait until around March plus pay a 5% increase in price due to the EURO. plus the same senario as above..

There ARE grey market importers but all are nearly sold out or Silver in color, which is not a color i prefer on an E-class. They are also all fully loaded with option that i probably wont make good use of including folding seats, keyless, and some other things taht slip my mind..but they do increase the price by about 10K.

and to top it off.. the warranty is only for 2 years and it does not include free service.

Thank you for reading.

Re: Buying an E in Hong Kong

How can the E is so cheap in HK ? Does that include tax and every misc fee ? In Vietnam, effectively 1/1/2004, Benz raises price on average by 28%, to cover for higher import & luxury tax.

Here's price quote for new car in Saigon (notice that these are for cars assembled in VN, imported ones from Germany and Japan has even higher price:

* Toyota Camry Delux V6: $57K
* Toyota 4 Runner: $66K.
* Mercedes C180 Kompressor: $48.4 K
* Mercedes C240 Avantgardge: $69.9 K
* Mercedes E240 Avantgardge: $94 K
* Mercedes S320 ? $170K.

Can anyone imagine how much a CL55 or S55 will run about ?

hey

hi there, i had just placed an order for an E-class recently from the ONLY mercedes dealer (yun fu) in hong kong. however i had quite a wonderful experience, they had been very helpful and all. and yes i had to pay the extra 5% as u mentioned, but we cant really avoid that in hong kong (sux). my waiting period is even longer! placed an order last week, the car wont be in hong kong til june 2004! but i guess its worth the wait with all the options i like... just need to be patient!

well, just another point of view.

zam2000, its true for the basic Advantgarde E240 (basic meaning it includes standard Advantgarde trimmings i.e. black birds eye, different shifter, blue tinted windows, headlamp washers etc BUT no pano or moon roof, no keyless go, no phone kit and no parktronic). The prices are listed on the MB HK site, inclusive of the (almost) 100% tax on the basic car and another 65% on selected (that's most!) accessories. Internal sources tell me they will increase another 6% for 2004 models - all direct from Germany.

vlix, are you working for Zung Fu (btw, their English name is Zung Fu!!!!!)?????? I cannot comment on the service but the darn company policy certainly sux, and that's coming from a person who used to advise on their operations. I guess that's what happens in a monopoly (oligopoly if you include the parallel/grey market importers). June delivery? Did you ask for a special color or something? By the time you get your ride, there will be a facelift, LOL!

Man, I had no idea it was so difficult to buy these cars in Asia. How hard would it be for someone to buy you one in the US and ship it there? It seems like it would cost less. Heck, I should go into that business. Importing Benzes to Asia.

Re: hey

So you live in HK now? Are you planning any mods to your car? or just keeping it stock..according to the sales at ZF if you change the rims you will void the suspension warranty.

Besides RHD, there's hefty taxes and your rides are set too tall.

If you add the spoiler you'll void the warranty on your boot, LOL!

Try the Lorinser distributor in Wan Chai..........Oh, unless cost is
not a concern, are you forgetting the new fxcking tax on accessories?
