New to me E55 - Some basic questions...

Hello all... I've exhausted search stuff on this, so hopefully someone can give me an idea of my issues with intermittent seat power and tilt/extend power. I recently purchased this beast, fine running and overall well taken care of, although I just dumped a grand into (preemptive) engine mounts and services that were behind.

Both driver and passenger seat controls are oddly intermittent; I say oddly due to the fact that if I shut the door and open it, sometimes they'll work. The steering extend/retract/tilt is also behaving the same. I'm thinking maybe seat control module, but if that's the case, is there one central, or multiple units?

Any experience on this would be appreciated!

are you talking about the "convenience entry/exit feature" of the seat and steering wheel or the steering and seat control in general?

Thanks for the reply. No, that's turned off. The actual controls are simply intermittent; I know that the door controls are getting power, because the memory button will always move the mirrors back to their set positions. The seats themselves (ie the power going to them and the tilt/extend on the wheel) are intermittent. Sometimes opening and closing a door (passenger side as well) will help. Pretty annoying- You have to take the rare opportunities when they do work to make some quick adjustments.

hmmm, thats a puzzle. with me, I dont barely use the controls since everything is in memory for both keys. im not even sure if resetting would help. could it be that the controls are dirty from the inside? it happened to my CLK but just for the headrest up/down control. my mech just gave it a good clean.

The wildcard on this is the fact that if I open a door, usually one will work. That's how I've got them to at least where they're tolerable. I'm almost thinking that the wire bundle is kinked in one of the door-car connections- This was an issue on my W220 once. Oh well- I've got 'em where I want 'em for now. Thanks for the opinions, anyway!
