W211 Remote Key & AM Radio Failure

I have a 2004 W211 E320CDI Wagon. Radio has lost AM a couple of times over past few months and then worked OK again. A couple of weeks ago it lost AM and intermittently dropped FM signal for a couple of seconds every 3 minutes. Now, after not driving it for a couple of weeks, it has lost both AM Radio and the key won't open the car unless it is next to the driver's door handle. FM reception is OK. I have checked fuse 8 and it is OK (tried 2 fuses in slot 8 to make sure it wasn't a blown fuse which wasn't obvious). Any advice on what should be checked and in which order?

Nothing done to modify car. It sat outside in airport car park for 2 weeks and on return, remote key wouldn't work. What do you mean by reset?
