04' E500 w/Appear. PKG, Panorama Roof

Wheel Balance

I picked up my new E500 two weeks ago and immediately noticed a shimmy at 50-70 mph. All road surfaces. I am wondering if this is commonly found ? I know it is just a wheel balance but why is it off on a $68K car?

My guess is the cost of the car has nothing to do with the shimmy. There is probably a weight that a tech failed to set correctly. Monkeys make the same mistakes on $5K cars as they do on $68K cars.

i had a bent rim that caused the same problem. tires replaced 3 times and balanced the fronts 4-5 times. i took the car to a local none mb tire place...first thing the guy said when he tried to balance the right front, 'your wheel has a hump in the inter wall.' took the car back to mb and had to show the foreman the problem. he was embarrassed and replace the rim...problem solved. it could just be a balance issue or a out of round tire as well..

i suggest to rotate the left front and left rear then test drive...if not better, rotate the right front and right rear...you will find the problem.

I have had new cars delivered with tires that weren't round which caused a shimmy. I have also had a broken cord in the tire cause a shimmy. New tires have fixed the problems in all cases.
