E class diesels on the production schedule!
They may not be immediately released but they should be built by April. If you are thinking about an E class diesel you should be able to order one at this point.
We have 3 E320CDIs that just went onto our production schedule for March of this year. They are listed as '05 models.

No pricing yet. No word on a wagon or 4matic yet.
I am sure there will be a wagon. There was never a 4matic diesel (or a wagon) for the 210 E class but it would make sense.
I am sure there will be a wagon.
will it ever be legal for you to register it in MA? if they follow the CA and NY law, it will not be.
how can they list these as 05 models?

well, it depends on how your state handles it. some states simply don't allow that model to be sold (based on emissions), but allow it to be registered. some states don't even allow it to be registered (like NY and CA).
Per MBUSA: "When low-sulphur diesel fuel becomes available in the US around 2007, our engineers are optimistic that the CDI diesel will meet emissions standards in all 50 states."
No guarantee Calif and Mass will ever see it....
It is rated at 201 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.
I'm with BobCanada: Give me an E400CDI, preferably with 4matic and in the wagon. That would be a killer car!
While I am cautiously optimistic that Europe will see a 400CDI wagon and that MAYBE it could come to the US, I really don't see them offering 4MATIC in ANY current diesel E.
They don't offer them in Germany and it is not like adding a moonroof. Maybe we'll see that in the next generation E-class, but not on this one. Gas cars and diesel cars are very different, and adding an AWD to an existing car system is not easy.
When driving through the USA, take a look at the cars driving around. V8 5.5L with 4265242622HP everywhere, the larger the engine the better the car sells. But oops... can't go faster than 110mph and even that is way too fast because there are cops all over. So what do you need a V8 for? But ok, if everyone buys these fuel-consuming "ultra low emission" monsters...
Then there is really efficient way to use natural ressources - diesel engines. But they produce a lot of particels. And then... oh yeah - somebody came up with a particular filter that really works. The E-220CDI is already available with a particular filter (have one) and the other models will get it early this year. Their emissions are so low - you cannot believe it - but cannot register them in some states?
The US-Government better forces the industry to produce high quality fuel for modern engines - then everybody can use state of the art technologie and protect the enviroment and save oil.
