Distronic questions
I don't have Distronic on my 2006 W211, but was considering DIY, maybe...anyway today I saw a 4matic with the sensor centered behind the front grill but had a grill looking just like my grill. The 4matic also had a clear piece of plexiglass behind the grill and in front of the sensor, looked kind of trapazoidal in shape, but maybe not, I only got quick glances in traffic. But it wasn't smoked plexiglas, I could clearly see the sensor when viewing it slightly off angle.
So question #1, the 4matic had factory taillights I presume, but had a diagonal row of LEDs on the inboard side of the tail lenses. What year(s) is this vehicle?
#2, is the grill any different in construction/composition than my 06 when it has the Distronic option? There was no center STAR on the 4matic's grill, the star emblem was on the hood just like my 2006.
#3 I see different part numbers for the sensors.
A211540217 and A0005408817, anybody know what the real differences are?
#4 Is the Distronic Plus microwave and the Distronic (1st Gen) infrared? I saw an order code for 2005 and in the description it said "infrared" generally referred as radar but tehcnically if its infrared, its not radar.
#5 Does the dash display speedo unit have to be changed out too?

#2 there's only 2 distronic grilles for w211; one for pre-facelift and one for facelift...
#5 IC doesn't need to be changed but u'll need much more than just sensor and grille...
the question is who can do install and version coding in ur area...
as for ordering right parts, u can contact MBenzNL, give ur VIN and they'll send you all necessary parts for ur car...

Would you be able to PM me your VIN so that I can have a dealer look up the part number to the taillight assemblies or is there an alternate way to look up the part number?
