Dustless brake pads for the 03' E500 finally

I just tried out these kevlar brake pads on my e500, they are awesome no dust! Have been looking for a few months just though i would pass this link along to the other who are cleaning your wheels every week.

Interesting....

I've started to carry a rag in my trunk just so I can wipe down my wheels during the day while at work. The dust accumulates after just driving to work!

Who installed the pads for you and how much did they charge?

yes, good question, who installed them? since SBC has to be disabled via the MB computer system to install pads on this car.

Question

If requested, will MB dealerships obtain and install them?

on a car still under warranty, the dealer is going to install 3rd party pads?

I thought brake pads weren't covered under warranty - normal wear item. Now then, if my pads are worn (without going into detail on how long pads should last) and need replacing will a dealership agree to install the pads of my choice if requested through, and delivered from their parts dept.?

Brake dust is definitely a problem yet nothing I am too concerned about. It's good to know there are brake pads that do not let off that much dust. However, how does having third party brakes affect the warranty if there is a problem with the braking system?

sure, the pads are not covered, but who knows if the dealer would do a song and dance about compatability with SBC. this is not a "normal" braking system.

Good news to find that these aftermarket pads are available.

I wonder how these pads compare to those which are made by Axxis (formerly Repco)? Are they more comparable to the Axxis Deluxe Plus pads (more organic) or perhaps the Axxis MetalMaster
or Ultimate pads (more metallic).

You have to be careful with street pads not to go too heavy on the metal component in the pads, or else the pads may wear the brake rotors excessively or fail to work well when they are cold.

Anybody know whether Axxis pads are available for the W211?

OK. So we're locked into the warranty no matter what with this. Understandable as it concerns SBC. I just thought maybe there was a chance we could have the best of both worlds. Wishful thinking.

As per my inquiry, MB tech replied: "We will not put on anything but MB pads. They work the best! We cannot assume any liability for a brake problem that is not an MB caused problem. "

OK That's all BS. I had the dealer install aftermarket (Axxis) brake pads on my SLK230 a few years ago and they did not whine about it -- as long as I paid the labor cost.

The law says that the manufacturer cannot void the vehicle warranty if an aftermarket item is installed on the car. They would have to prove that the vehicle failure (if it happens) was caused by the warranty item.

I'm just looking for facts on behalf of all our members. Dust free wheels is a concern. Your sugested remedy sounds fine. But will the dealers agree (i.e. warranty issues, etc.)? The tech I reference (so ca) has been unbiased in his opinions and very helpful in passing along bulletins, part #s, etc. His dealership will not install these pads. Right or wrong I just post them as I read them to help others make an informed decision. You mention an SLK a few years back, how about the e-class with SBC today? What's the dealership's name so others can use as a reference or benchmatk to their own dealer? Etc, etc., etc.

So how do these new pads hold up to water? There was some complaints about some other dustless pads failing in rain in another post. Anyone?

Just like with the tires (such as swapping for the Michelins instead of the Crapinentals), some dealers are willing, others are not. It all depends on their policies. And like we have seen countless other times, it almost seems like the MB dealer network can't really be considered a "network" since none of them work in any kind of concert with each other or with the mother ship.

I wonder what MB's official response is to whether they themselves allow for aftermarket pads to be placed on an SBC equipped car. If you can't (at least as far as MB is concerned), that is pretty poor planning on their part.

Sorry, I didn't mean that your post was BS, I meant that for MB's reply.

As for the dealership, it was MB of Sacramento. They also lowered my other two cars (SLK and CLK) with aftermarket springs.

----SBC---- that's the question. Will they or won't they do it? Like alewifebp said, it depends on each dealership.

alewifebp, I think it's not poor planning, I think it's one strategy to make the customer come back again and again to dealerships and not lose to the aftermarket industry.

BTW, here are some warranty information regarding unfair warranty denials from SEMA:

I'm thinking he's either the owner or works at that brakeworld.com but that's just my opinion.

Previously recommended pads were judged poor in rainy conditions: ttp://forums.mbworld.org/forums/showthread.php?threadid=56068

If you don't mind can you post the name of your dealer and the state you're in so that others may reference if installation is questioned or refused by their dealer. A scan of the work order would be best with personal info deleted. Thanks.

FYI: You can post pictures, scans, etc., by using [IMG] tabs as recommended by LorinserCClass: https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...threadid=57202

Mike-

Did you get pads for the rear too? I'm unclear from the website you posted whether these pads are available for front and rear or just the rear. Do you think your new pads stop as well as the OE pads? How would you contrast the two?

Thanks!

Checked with my dealer re installing aftermarket brake pads, and they said they do not sell aftermarket pads and will NOT install such pads even if I buy them on my own and bring them in! Damn.

and with SBC, the system needs to be deactivated before the pads can be changed, so I don't know how that is done by an independent shop without the MB computer. I don't know if there are some fuses you can pull to disable SBC, maybe patrick knows.
