2004 MB E320 Wagon
New Here! Would Appreciate Any Help Given!!

I have a 2004 E320 Wagon. Recently, I had 6 malfunction lights come on at the same time. I've called my MB dealer and they want me to bring it in. I never seem to get outta that place for less than $500, so naturally, I'm a bit reluctant to do so!? And, all of these malfunctions are lighting related. They are: Tail light left, Brake light left, Brake light, left Back-up light on!, Brake light, right Back-up light on!, Tail light, left Back-up light on!, Tail light, right Back-up light on! I'm thinking there's gotta be an easy explanation for this and hopefully, an easy solution?? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your consideration! Great Forum!!!

Find a good independent repair shop if you're afraid of the dealership. Try and look up an import specialist or a shop which specializes in German cars. You have MAJOR electrical faults from what you described, this doesn't sound like something you could diagnose at home unless you have a good background working on cars and diagnosing electrical problems. Good luck!

Check rear SAM (no dedicated fuse) & tail lamp assemblies including tailgate for corrosion/water penetration. If fine, proceed to harness (I believe it travels along tailgate hinge). No problems, it could be a failed lamp support - as previously recommended for a definitive answer have someone check for fault codes with MB DAS.

I had the same issue. Came to a simple problem of brake lamp burned out. The vehicle started using reserve schema utilizing lamps on the tailgate.
Check out which lights are out when you press the brake pedal. Replacing the plates with lamps is about 10 minutes job. On the right you have to remove the subwoofer. The plates are a bit expensive, something around $30 each.
