05 e320 trans leak / wiring harness
I started smelling ATF through the air vents. The connector at the transmission is leaking but it never dripped to the outside. It's pushed the fluid up through the wires and into the TCM. I want to replace the transmission wiring harness from the trans to the TCM. I looks pretty simple except for the 6 or so wires that go up the A pillar and all the way over to the other side of the dash.
Does anyone know how to get to those connectors? How much of the car has to be taken apart to do so?
Or can I cut and solder the new harness to the old one were it goes beside the dash?

I've already checked. There are no recalls on mine.
This past weekend I replaced the harness. After taking the dash top off to run the new harness as it goes over to the drivers side. I figured out that you can't run it the correct way with out taking the complete dash out. So I run it under the dash and tie wrapped it to the wires running under the dash. On the left side the transmission harness plugs into the underside of the fuse box in the engine compartment and also plugs into a connector block under the drivers front carpet.
I spent about 16 hours doing this job. If I had just run it under the dash to begin with I would have only spent about 3 hours on it.
The car actually shifts better. It had been shifting kinda of funny for a while. I think with oil in the harness and the fluid in the computer was affecting it. I cut the old harness out and cut the end off of it and hung it up. Its drained 2 to 3 ounce's out of it.

I pulled the TCM out of its case and cleaned it with electrical spray cleaner. Changing the connector would have prevented this. But mine never showed any sign of leakage under the car.
After I started smelling ATF in the car. I pulled the under pan off and the connector was dry as it can be. When I pulled the connector out of the housing there was fluid inside of the housing.

It is possible that no connector could have stopped the fluid at the trans
The psi build up at the connector maybe or possibly an o ring which prevents psi at this connector ?
