Draining front differential

I am attempting to insert a small rubber tube into the front differential of my 08 4matic. I have the drain plug removed but am having a bit of an issue inserting the rubber hose into the differential unit.
Is there a trick to this procedure? One post mentions a rail by which one must insert the tube in order to access the sump of the differential.
I am scratching my head right now figuring out how to do a proper evac of the fluid in there.
I wonder why a drain plug was not machined in place. Sure would be easier😃
Thanks,
Turner

Front Differential Drain

I tried the link-this link is for the transfer case. I am looking for some info on help with the draining of fluid from the front differential.
Thanks,
Turner
