Static
This information is correct.
(Though there are ways to get the SW earlier, as I got it just before Christmas, and this week I received it "oficially")
The issues that I am aware of that are fixed by the mentioned software for the AGW (this means we have no detailed information about what it should fix, but this may still come), are that crackling "static-like" sound and some systems that still shut off (most of them were fixed by previous updates).
The SW-version is 43/03 and every dealer should be able to check this easily.
Just picked up my car this morning. Dealer advised the SW43/03 update was already in my car. They found a loose wire in the Command/Radio and advise that should be the fix. We'll see in the next couple of days.
'02 S500 (fixed/Tranny Leak)
'04 E500 (fixed/Static)
Now our '01 E320 4matic (Check Engine Light) is at the dealer...hopefully fixed by tomorrow.
I doubt this. How old is your car exactly?
Thanks!

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Maybe Patrick knows how to get in?
I just called my dealer's foreman mechanic and he advised they already have the SW43/03 update at their shop (that's what he's claming) and they claim they check to see if my car had this when the car was in yesterday. He will check my car again tomorrow to make sure my car has this update and go from there.
and I was just told that the software update to uninstall it will be available early next month. If it's already known that the upgrade won't work, I'd sure like to know.

Thanks for any info...
My hands feee phone microphone stopped working, but (I assume) thats another issue.
Man is this COMAND system a joke. I feel like I am doing Quality Control for MBUSA without getting paid for it. Today I asked by dealership to start the process with MBUSA to reacquire my vehicle.
The only thing I can think of that would make my COMAND have so many issues is that I got all the system options - CD Changer, NAV, Integrated Phone, and (at one tme, since been removed) voice recognition. I would think the complexity of the system increases dramatcially with each added component.
We'll report after a couple of days.......
Did you really get rid of the static problem after the software upgrade??? Mine is OK so far after the jump start of battery.
BTW, why did you call yourself Lion Head??
B.Rgds.,
Steven

It looks like the software update solved the problem (I hope I am not tempting fate with that comment!)
The service ticket which is somewhat cryptic says "control module- perform version coding" and "audio gateway- performed audio gateway software upgrade". No software version is listed.
This forum has been a great resource, with the information that was available here I was able to push the dealer into the right direction for the solution. Thanks everyone!
Hopefully it works. Pretty soon we will fix our cars ourselves just like we do our computers - some support person in India will email us a software upgrade thru the computer; we'll download it onto a special flash card and plug the card into the car's jack, thus downloading the software.
