Static interference in COMMAND on w211 E550

I have noticed that my E550 has a strong background static noise if I turn up the volume at all, and I can especially notice it if a song has a quiet part in it and it really gets on my nerves. I have the COMMAND unit in a 2008 model and I really don't know what to do. I also have the ipod connection in the glovebox. Is the only solution to fix this to get an aftermarket head unit or are there other options? I heard a ground loop isolator might work but I don't know where to begin.

Is the issue only on the ipod or on any audio source?

If heard across all sources (radio, etc.) may be Audio Gateway (amplifier) check connections & housing/bracket ground if fine, definitive diagnose have someone pull fault codes using MB DAS. If you replace amp, replacement may need coding to match MOST setup - part # should be either 2118704289 or 6989.

Membership FYI if static coincides with rear defogger use, grid is damaged and rear window needs replacement.
