Does ipod cable replace aux input?
2008 e350 4matic.
There is an ipod connector and aux in the glovebox. I have a galaxy s4 and the aux isn't playing music.
Did the install of the ipod cable mean they removed the aux? The cluster mentions ipod so I am guessing it's a dealer install.
I wanted to check before I start removing stuff.

Another question... I tried to remove the head unit last night and the fiber plug under the unit refused to come out of the socket. I don't get it. I didn't want to pull any harder I thought the plastic was going to break. I pushed the tab next to it in every way I could.
Has anyone done this and can advise? I have to remove the plug to pull the cd changer out to access the screws under the head unit.

In your case, check out this thread so you can stream music from your S4 using bluetooth with that OEM iPod integration.

In my 06 350 i have the iPod integration with the plug in the glove box as well as the AUX in the upper part of the glove box. Only the iPod integration works. I believe you can only have one, not AUX+ IPOD.

Yes they unplug the aux input cable and plug in the ipod to the HU. If you remove the HU you should see the loose cable and swap it or do what I did and wire the ipod to be an aux input so i can either use an ipod or my phone.
As for the fiber cable (the cd changer one right) it has a tab that is sort of recessed and not noticeable at first. When I squeeze the plug like every outer plug it wouldn't come out but then i looked closer with some light and saw that you have to squeeze it at just the right spot and it will come out very easy.

I have been told this works but make sure to get a genuine apple one as the fakes are well junk as you would expect but I would also recommend buying it somewhere with a good return policy like amazon just in case you have issues.

4 yrs ago i use my iphone 4 on the ipod interface plug in the glove compartment and it worked. Yesterday i use adapter like you mention and another type like this
but there is no sound coming out. I was hoping that someone here have used the adapter to convert 30 pin ipod plug to 8 lighting cable so it will work with iphone 5/6

ps2cho, if you have the iPod cable in your glovebox and you're looking to stream music wirelessly via your phone, all you need to do is purchase this little device called tune2air by Viseeo. I purchased this a few months ago, cost ~$100 and its the best $100 i've spent so far on this car.
Connects with my phone instantly once your pair it the first time. All the music I listen to is streamed from Slacker radio (App). Some european electronics shop here in FL wanted $800 to allow me to have the same functionality. Couldn't be happier with this purchase.

This cable that I just received is working for me
Amazon.com: Lightning 8 pin to 30 pin Cable Adapter Converter with Audio Cable Cord for iPhone 6/ 6 Plus / 5 / 5S / 5C, iPad Air, iPad mini , iPad 3 4, iPod Nano (7th gen), and iPod Touch (5th gen) to Sound dock speaker, like Bose, JBL, iHome, etc (Ct3) (white): Cell Phones & Accessories
But not this adapter.

It's an easy job and should take less than 30 minutes. Check Youtube for videos on how to remove the stereo. No special tools are needed.

Just get a cheap ipod touch and use that for music. All you need is a 4th gen one plus a charging adapter. They have wifi so I just use spotify to sync my music. I like that set up better than my W212 which has bluetooth. You can use the steering wheel controls to go up or down a song. You won't have that with the aux input.

So... I bought a CLK350 and discovered the iPod (male) connector in the glove box. The 3.5mm aux jack is tucked away above the glove box (out of sight). A couple of questions..,. if anyone can email me at budgobbel@hotmail.com. 1. Are the iPod and 3.5mm jacks both active at the same time (using only one at a time)? 2. Does the iPod jack connect to the Command Unit, while the 3.5mm cable runs down under the passenger cable cluster?

Like I said earlier, use an ipod touch and load all your music on it, either spotify or some other app, 4th gen ones are dirt cheap these days maybe around $30 on ebay or less. That way you can use the steering wheel controls to go up and down your playlist. You don't get that with the aux input, just volume control. Also displays the song playing although it tends to lag behind, you have to play with the menu buttons to get the current song.
