COMAND Version and Nav Maps Date

I recently had an M-B dealer replace the original COMAND head unit in my '09 E-550 with a re-manufactured unit (long story). The Nav software in the re-manufactured unit seems to be very similar, but slightly different, from that in the original unit. How can I determine the software version that is in the replacement unit?

Shortly before having the head unit replaced, I had updated the Nav maps in the original unit to version 2013.1. How can I determine the vintage of the maps in the replacement unit? Thanks very much.

By removing the disc from the Nav drive and looking at the label.

The '09 W211 COMAND system stores its Nav maps on a hard drive. There is no removable DVD Nav map disc, as there used to be in previous years.

I would assume that you can check the map date somewhere in the unit but wouldn't be able to tell you where as I haven't used that generation of unit only the earlier one and the newer one.
That said my map update philosophy is that if I don't notice any issues with it I leave it be as my Garmin and phone will always be more up to date so I just use it for more basic navigation such as to get me to a street where I have been before and just need a little reminder. That said MBUSA just emailed me yesterday I believe it was about a map update special no clue how good it was though (have 2014 maps)

Thanks for the reply, Samaritrey. I still haven't been able to determine if the COMAND firmware in the re-built head unit is different from that in the original unit. However, I have confirmed that the Nav maps in the re-built unit are at least as new as the 2013.1 maps that I had installed in the old unit shortly before it failed, because when I inserted the 2013.1 DVD, the unit responded with a message saying that the maps had already been installed.
