Aftermarket Android head unit

Honestly, I don't know. That is why I am asking. I saw this video last year and it clearly shows the Dynavin being integrated directly in to the MOST system.

forget about that unit boardboy, i also tried this on a customers E class and the results were shocking. too much noise and optical fiber emulation was horrible. hence why even avin recommend the use of the bypass cable.
Mercedes and HK and Becker (that's the brand of the amp that powers the HK stereo) invested millions in engineering the audio for the E class. so no after market will seamlessly work with them.

Tubaprde, the difference between dual and quad is immeasurable. i can see from the videos of Avin units they are already lagging. i would hate to see how much more they will lag with live wallpapers and running a few more applications.
FWIW, i would say go for the unit i posted earlier. just make sure you send them questions first saying that you will need a 6m long radio antenna cable as well as the 6m long speaker cable.. (address your questions to a person named "Andrew")
As for installation. if you follow my video of how i installed the cables, you should be able to do it yourself and save $$$, everything is plug and play. there is no extra wiring or connection required of you until you decide to install an amp to power all the speakers etc.
The unit did not come with any installation instructions. but believe me, with he help of my video above, its very simple.
The interior on the e class is very simple and everything removes in orderly fashion, nothing should break or snap on you. there are guilds everywhere on how to remove the factory stereo etc.
Also just to correct you, the AVIN and This Aliexpress unit both will only power the 4 speakers in the car. so all 4 door speakers. whats left is another 4 speakers. (SUB, Front center, and there are also 2 more speakers attached to the subwoofer enclosure!)
the 45w will struggle and sound horrible with HK speakers as they require more juice. so i highly recommend an after market amp.
I believe the best way to power all your speakers is:
Buy a powerful 4 channel amp. at least 200w per channel. (mine is 300w per channel and it sounds amazing and has plenty of juice left in it to blow up the speakers if i wish to increase the gain)
my setup is
Power all the LEFT speakers of the car from the front L channel (300w)
Power all the RIGHT speakers of the car from the front R channel (300w)
Power the factory sub woofer from the Rear L and R channels(600w)
using the plitter box i powered the center speaker and the 2 small parcel shelf speakers next to the sub)
You wont have 4 channel surround sound. but you will still have stereo sound.
This setup will allow you to increase the volume of the sub by fading more to the rear or reduce it by fading to the front on the stereo unit.
if you have independent subwoofer control on your unit (AVIN unit) then you can run a second amp and run a 5m long RCA cable to it. (personally i think that's a waste of time and money) After all stereo sound is what songs are recorded in.

Wow the quad core does look fast! I was very close to buying the Avin unit but after seeing this I'm going to reconsider. Even though I'm an iPhone guy I still like to tinker so I think this will be a good fit; so long as my installer is able to make it work initially. Thanks for the update!

About to order mine too!
EDIT: ahh, Ok I saw when I scrolled most of the way down it says:
What is in the Package
1.Android Unit
2.Map 8G SD Card (gift worth $10)
3.GPS Antenna 3 meters long
4.Power Cable with Dual Canbus ---this is not the same as the fiber optic bypass cable right?
5.RCA Cables
6.USB Cable
7.External Microphone (gift worth $10)
So no need to buy the Power Cable with Dual Canbus or external microphone I guess.
/end edit
I'm about to order the quad-core unit and cables from the same place you got yours, Xpresion. I'm worried that some of these extra wires/components won't be compatible with either the HU or the Mercedes so would you mind verifying that these are right? Here's what I plan on ordering:
Head Unit: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Andro...327114834.html
6 Meter Fiber Cable: https://avinusa.com/mercedes-fiber-o...ion-cable.html (ordering from Avin is actually cheaper)
6m antenna cable: I could not find this one?
Reverse Camera: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Merce...902610558.html
ODB2: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Bluet...941378010.html
Mic http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Speci...310600220.html

NubyIz, Congrats mate, let me know how you go and if you have any questions
Thanks for posting the XDA link, however the ROM i used is not listed on that link.
FYI here is the link to the rom.
http://huifei.fs-fileserver.de/conte...core%20RK3188/
Tubaprde, The microphone, canbuss box, and GPS antenna come with the unit mate
The only thing you need to independently buy would be the 6m long GPS antenna if you wish to run the factory gps module.
Make sure you buy exactly what NubyIz has listed above (6m long radio antenna). so speak with the seller and make sure they will supply you everything and price it accordingly.
*** you cannot use the 6m power cable from Avin because the stereo plug is different. you have to buy it from the same supplier that supplies the unit. tell them that you have seen the cable cheaper. they did it for me for $35USD. =)
Also tell them you spoke with someone on the forums named Michael , CEO of (Entity Electronics). That way i can have a chat with them too and make sure they look after everyone and wont send the wrong stuff
All the best.

Quick question about the 6m GPS antenna you mentioned.
What exactly does that do, use the GPS antenna of the car?
Also the link for the specific firmware description is here:

NubyIz, thank you for the link, i tried searching for the thread but i didnt fin dit. maybe it was too late at night haha. but from what i can see, the developer has a newer version on the link you posted and i am downloading it now and will give it a whirl.
Yes that's right the 6m long GPS cable will allow you to use the original GPS module. it should pick up better signal then the one that comes with the unit.

Could you share either an Ebay or AliExpress link and a pic of the connectors just in case?
I think better order one now so I can lay all three cables together.
Cheers

sure,
you will need both these items.
This one connects to the GPS connector in the boot and runs to the front unit

and this one connects to the units GPS port and converts it to male to match the 5 meter cable

Xpression, I like how you broke down how to run run the aftermarket amp to all the HK speakers. I was originally thinking of running 2 amps but I would like to keep the install simple as possible. This setup has me thinking again

Xpresion (Michael), this information is invaluable to us. As an long-time Android user, I'm exciting about starting this project in the near future. I would also welcome a new, consolidated thread, possibly with a small FAQ section so that you can avoid having to answer repeat questions.
This unit will breathe new life into our cars, especially those with the older COMANDs. Thank you.

Nubylz, sorry mate you also need this third one. unfortunately i could not find a male to female 5m long GPS cable. so we need to convert both ends to suit our application

I agree, this is exciting. I spend 2 hours a day in my vehicle and love the sound that the HK setup produces. If the setup with the additional amp is close, that will be fantastic. And, having the other features is even better. My GPS with the DVD is not working well, replacing it will be a bonus.
Good work, thanks!

if somone can confirm this i would be very greatfull. I did part number search but it wasnt very clear.
Anyways i believe this here is the plug for the factory Microphone. should you try and use that, you will need a unique cable that goes from 3mm jack (back of the head unit) to a male version of the connector seen below that is found in the boot and was connected to the original Becker AMP.

Yes you will lose it. but FYI,
Logic 7 surround will only truly work with songs produced to utilize 7 channels.
if its not a specific track then Logic 7 attempts to emulate the surround. most of the time making the song sound weird.
what HK would do in this case is: this is just an example!
Play the Treble through the front and 2 rear parcel shelf speakers
Play High pitch via the tweeters on the doors
play MID /(vocals & post 80hz bass )through the 4 door speakers
play bass 30Hz-100Hz) through the woofer.
However with MP3's you download, they are only 2 channel, stereo output.
You can retain 5.1 channel surround (if you decide to watch a DVD on the unit) by using 2 amps.
1 amp for the subwoofer, and 1 5 channel amp for the 4 door speakers and front center speaker.
