Just purchased a 2003 e500 with 88k. Issues: fan constantly running, srs light on and check engine light. Drove it, runs great but think it need shocks or struts. Also noisy right ac vents. Pls advise which issue to tackle first.

Get it scanned with the appropriate tool to correctly diagnose the CEL, then prioritize the issues based on your checkbook and desire for safety and comfort.

Yeah... lame advice, but until you know what is causing the CEL, you have no idea what problem(s) you have!

Are you a BIG Do-It-Yourselfer? If so, go ahead and spend whatever amount is relative to your level of do-it-yourselfness. Otherwise, spend $150 and go meet your local Mercedes-Benz dealer or trusted indy.

MBs have very specific codes that require very specific tools. You can spend anywhere from around a hundred to a few thousand. There are many threads here on the merits of the many choices.

Plutoe here will always give you his five cents plus some!

Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, BMW, MINI and more!
Welcome! Sorry to hear about your issues. Yes, definitely be sure to scan the vehicle and see what's going on. Can take a look at one here if needed. Otherwise, if you need help with your suspension install you can check out our tech articles here under suspension for help. Good luck!

I would probably go for the Launch X431 Easydiag. About the same price as the ELM327, somewhere around $20 on aliexpress. Reads basic codes for free and for an extra $40, it will read manufacturer specific codes.

The other option out there is to get a Star Diagnostic/DAS/Xentry system which can range from $400-$600+.

I have a couple scanners. I use my Actron CP9580A first because it's simpler, but if I need to dig into the MB sensor diags, the Launch X431 is excellent, and by far the best value when compared to the cost of an Autel or the unquestionably incomparable SDS X-Entry which is the factory standard.
