my new steering wheel

check out my new steering wheel:

i got it from RENNtech. it looks similar to steering wheels provided by other tuners. i think it's much better than the stock steering wheel found on the E-classes.

t-bone - That wheel looks great. I would have gotten that one over the MB version had I known. Do you mind if I ask how much for the wheel? Thanks!!

Like those pedals, too. Are those stock on the E55?

The steering wheel was close to $2000

The pedals are not stock. They were taken from an SL. Very easy to change. You can either use SL pedals or SLK pedals. There is only a slight difference between the two. However, it is more expensive to get the SL accelerator pedal since you have to buy the whole assembly. The SLK accelerator pedal can be purchased by itself.

It looks like it's made by Victor...Does it cost $2k because of the shifters??

I don't know if it's made by Victor or not. I don't think it costs so much because of the shifters. The shifters are taken from the stock steering wheel and just popped into place on the new steering wheel.

I am told that it is hand made. Maybe that might be why it costs so much.

The quality of the wheel is very nice too. I'll try and get more pics soon. I've got some other toys I've added onto the car too.

My Brabus steering wheel is on order so I have not seen mine yet. However, I bought it after seeing it on a Brabus W211 at the LA auto show. It looks similar to the Renntech from what I can see. The difference between the MBZ version and the Renntech or Brabus is that the aftermarket versions have a curved shape (hard to describe) that leaves the plane of the smoothly shaped standard wheel. It provides a wider grip and a changing surface (almost like the "flame surfacing" GASP that BMW brags about on the Z4! ). Pictures of it have been posted before. I'll dig mine up and post it. Since I'm at work and haven’t posted pics before, I won’t get to it until tonight.

Harris was running a special on genuine AMG Safety Car steering wheels for less than $1000US. You can customize it too.

Yeah.... but I like the feel and grip of the RENNtech one better. It is more grooved for your hands. And the bumps at 10 and 2 on the steering wheel make it better to grip.

The F1 safety steering wheel is still a bit thin looking. And even if it is customizable, I can't really see where the wood would be on it. I have also attached a picture of the KLEEMANN steering which costs as much as the RENNtech one. As you can see, the RENNtech one has more wood and the KLEEMANN one has just inserts.

Besides, Harris is still waiting to hear back about the F1 steering wheel for the W211 as far as I know according to his last post about it.

I have not received any F1 wheel for the W211 yet. I ordered a few back in Nov and I was told it should take 4-6 weeks. But to date, I am still waiting. If your car has + - buttons, we can order the F1 wheel with the + - button as well. It is a pretty straight forward install, less than 10 minutes. With the ever rising Euro vs the dollar, the steering wheel cost at least 10% more than last year. For actual pricing, pls feel free to send me an e-mail.
For me, it was worth the money.

If anyone wants to know, I got my steering wheel from AUTOWERKS DIRECT. They are an authorized RENNtech sales and installation facility. Here is their website:

http://www.autowerksdirect.com

I am not starting a group buy. I am just letting people know where I got it. I am letting them use my picture of the steering on their website because I am really happy with their work. I am not affiliated with them in any way nor am I starting a group buy. I just want to be clear that I am not starting a group buy. Once again, this is not a group buy. I am just providing information.

Wow! That's a nice steering wheel! Nice choice!

I visited the website and it seems that they're running a special. I called and it was advised that the offer is only valid thru the 10th of February for a Feb 11 stocking order from Germany. They advised that its only a 10-14 day turnaround to receive the product at my door. I placed an order online for my S-Class.

I had BiXenons installed on my W220 a few weeks ago. I was in the impression that the dealer did it internally, and I was surprised that they were able to make it work, including the leveling system. Others said (and also in this forum) that it is really difficult.

My MB dealer's parts and service department (MB San Diego) finally admitted that they sublet all non-standard work such as wheels, suspension, performance, COMAND and BiXenons to this same shop, and its the only shop they trust for such kind of work... that makes a big statement for me to trust a shop, since that's a major endorsement from a reputable source.

I will give them a visit tomorrow.

BTW t-bone: I am just curious why come all the way to SD just to replace your steering wheel??? Did you get any other work done?

heh heh... well, I decided to also do the RENNtech chip/pulley upgrade and a couple of other things.

I decided to do the RENNtech upgrade after talking more with them during my steering wheel purchase. They were very professional in their service towards me and that gave me confidence to trust them with the RENNtech modification. They had also previously worked on my E430 and installed my Xenon headlights, H&R springs and Bilstein shocks.

I will post pics soon of everything I did with them. This includes the rear trunk spoiler and the installation of the OEM AMG illuminated door sills.

t-bone, please post a pic of your Renntech rear spoiler ASAP. I want to compare it to the Lorinser and make a decision on which one to get. And let me know when you're going to be up Magic Mountain way!! mp

Also what to see your steering wheel!!
